MG Motor Malaysia has officially introduced the all-new MGS5 EV SUV, with an estimated starting price of RM115,000, during the Malaysia Autoshow 2025. The launch event was graced by prominent figures including Azrul Reza Aziz, CEO of the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii), and Ts. Nizmar Mohd Nazar, Deputy CEO of MARii. Joining them were MG Motor Malaysia’s senior management team, including Managing Director Emory QiFeng and Chief Operations Officer Lee Wen Hsiang of SAIC Motor Malaysia.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of an exclusive early bird package, which offers customers who book the MGS5 EV at the show with a RM500 booking fee an exceptional value proposition. This package includes savings that are 10 times more generous than typical offerings, alongside a complimentary 7kW Wallbox AC charger to ensure convenient home charging. This early bird offer is available exclusively during the Malaysia Autoshow.
The MGS5 EV will be offered in two variants: COM and LUX. The COM variant provides a choice between two battery options: a 49kWh battery offering up to 340 km of WLTP range, and a 62kWh battery delivering up to 430 km. The LUX variant comes standard with the 62kWh battery, offering the same impressive range of 430 km. Both variants feature a rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration, delivering 170PS and 250Nm of torque, making the MGS5 EV the only model in its segment with this drivetrain.
The LUX variant is particularly distinguished by its DC fast charging capability, capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes with 150kW charging support. Additionally, the LUX variant is equipped with a host of premium features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, leather-fabric seats with perforated MG logos, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a heated leather steering wheel, wireless phone charging, six premium speakers, a powered tailgate, and a 360-degree surround view camera.
Both variants are equipped with a variety of advanced features including LED headlamps with ‘Racing Flag’ themed DRLs, MG’s signature Arch Taillights, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interior boasts a 12.8-inch central infotainment touchscreen with voice commands, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and MG’s iSMART connectivity system. Boot space is an impressive 1,441 litres, including the underfloor compartment, offering ample storage capacity.
The MGS5 EV utilizes an ultra-thin Horizontal Battery Layout, optimizing interior space while ensuring a low centre of gravity. This innovative design sets a new benchmark in the segment for maximizing passenger comfort and enhancing driving dynamics. In addition, the adaptive pressure control system used in the MGS5 EV minimizes battery cell expansion, boosting both safety and battery longevity.
At the Malaysia Autoshow, visitors have the unique opportunity to test drive the MGS5 EV, the only chance to experience the model ahead of its official price announcement. The MG5, MG4, and MG HS will also be available for test drives during the event, while customers can explore the world’s first all-electric soft-top roadster, the MG Cyberster.
Special offers at the Autoshow include a RM5,000 rebate on the MG5 and MG HS, as well as flexible ownership options for the MG4 with monthly instalments starting from as low as RM974. Those who place a booking for the MG Cyberster will also receive an exclusive one-year Unlimited Charging package with JomCharge, a complimentary 7kW Wallbox AC charger, and a limited-edition MG Cyberster Diecast Model.
Additionally, MG Motor Malaysia has partnered with Bridgestone Malaysia to host two public workshops at the event, focused on EV-specific tyre innovations and essential maintenance tips. These workshops will take place from 9 to 11 May 2025 at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
