As Malaysia’s national energy demands are set to climb steadily over the next decade, two key players in the lubricant industry — PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) and Glide Technology Sdn Bhd (GLIDE) — have joined forces to bolster the country’s energy infrastructure. The two companies recently formalized a collaboration agreement focused on the distribution of premium insulating oils under the newly launched brand, PETRONAS Tranol Glide.
Insulating oils are vital for the optimal performance of transformers, which are the backbone of power substations across the nation. The PETRONAS Tranol Glide range, available in Uninhibited and Inhibited variants, has been engineered to meet rigorous international standards and to perform reliably under demanding operational conditions.
Khalil Muri, Managing Director and Group CEO of PLI, emphasized the strategic significance of the initiative, stating, “PETRONAS Lubricants International’s expertise in delivering high-quality industrial solutions enables us to support Malaysia’s ever-growing industrial sector. The PETRONAS Tranol Glide range is meticulously developed to enhance and sustain the performance of power systems, ensuring we are well-equipped for future growth.”
Local manufacturer GLIDE, which operates production facilities in Shah Alam, Selangor, will handle the manufacturing of PETRONAS Tranol Glide for domestic distribution. The company, already a trusted supplier to utility companies and transformer manufacturers, sees this collaboration as a significant step forward.
Dato’ Hj. Muhazli Bin Hj. Muhamad, President of the Glide Group of Companies, shared his excitement about the partnership, saying, “This agreement with PETRONAS Lubricants International is a milestone in GLIDE’s growth journey. It not only affirms our technical capabilities but also strengthens our role in Malaysia’s evolving energy landscape. We are committed to delivering world-class, locally manufactured insulating oil solutions to support the nation’s industrial development.”
The partnership comes at a crucial time as Malaysia intensifies efforts under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), aiming to double its renewable energy capacity by 2050. Coupled with the surging energy requirements from new data center investments, ensuring the efficiency, safety, and longevity of power equipment has never been more critical. Strategic alliances like that of PLI and GLIDE highlight how Malaysian SMEs are positioning themselves to lead and compete globally in the evolving energy sector.
