In a significant leap toward cultivating a sustainable future, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), has announced the 30 secondary schools shortlisted for the Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) 2025 program. This milestone follows an enthusiastic nationwide response from students eager to drive environmental change through innovation and community action.
Earlier in March, TEY 2025 called upon secondary school students across Malaysia to submit forward-thinking environmental initiatives. The result was an overwhelming wave of creativity, with over 120 project proposals received—each reflecting the passion and determination of Malaysia’s youth to shape a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.
The program officially launched with a comprehensive Problem-Solving Methodology (PSM) Workshop, held from April 28 to 30 at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam. Students and their teacher-advisors were introduced to Toyota’s 8-Step PSM—an approach designed to guide structured, practical problem-solving. This method empowers students to think critically about environmental challenges and develop actionable, sustainable solutions that make a tangible impact in their communities.
Each of the 30 selected schools received a RM3,000 grant to implement their proposed projects—totaling RM90,000 in support. These initiatives are not just awareness campaigns; they are real-world interventions designed to improve local environments and drive lasting community engagement.
The evaluation process for TEY 2025 is as comprehensive as the projects themselves. Schools will be judged on:
- On-Site Project Execution (40%) – Real-world implementation and effectiveness.
- Project Presentation (20%) – Clarity, storytelling, and analytical depth.
- Exhibition (20%) – Visual creativity and interactive communication.
- Social Media & Community Engagement (20%) – Outreach and education impact, both online and offline.
Following these evaluations, only the Top 15 teams will progress to the grand finals, where their projects will be showcased and judged for top honors.
“At Toyota, our vision of ‘Moving Your World’ extends beyond vehicles to empowering youth and communities to take meaningful action,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor. “With their passion and the right tools, these students are building a better world — not in theory, but through real, measurable efforts.”
The Toyota Eco Youth program continues to embody Toyota’s commitment to sustainability, education, and community empowerment. As these students step forward to lead the way, their journey reflects the power of youth-driven action in shaping Malaysia’s environmental future.
