In a powerful move to support Malaysia’s low-carbon mobility goals, BYD Sime Motors—the leading battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand in the country—has teamed up with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to promote widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). This forward-thinking partnership highlights a shared commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning toward a greener, more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
Central to this collaboration is the launch of the “Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT” programme, a six-month initiative aimed at immersing MOT personnel in the electric driving experience. With support from Gentari Sdn Bhd through its subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, the program includes the installation of two EV chargers at the MOT headquarters in Putrajaya, symbolizing a step forward in Malaysia’s EV infrastructure.
Through the initiative, MOT staff will have the opportunity to test drive BYD’s entire EV lineup—including the BYD SEALION 7, BYD SEAL, BYD ATTO 3 ULTRA, BYD M6, and BYD DOLPHIN—allowing them to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge electric mobility technology. This real-world exposure is designed to enhance familiarity, comfort, and confidence in EV ownership and operation.
The official launch ceremony, held at MOT Putrajaya, was graced by key dignitaries including Transport Minister YB Loke Siew Fook and Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director for Southeast Asia, Sime Motors. Also in attendance were Deputy Minister YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Bin Habibollah, MOT Secretary General YBhg. Dato’ Jana Santhiran Muniayan, BYD Sime Motors General Manager Adeline Lew, and Izuan Hafiz, Head of Green Mobility MY-SG at Gentari Green Mobility.
“At BYD Sime Motors, we’re honored to lead the charge in accelerating EV adoption in Malaysia,” said Gan. “Our collaboration with the Ministry of Transport is a significant stride toward reducing emissions and encouraging sustainable mobility across all levels of society—including the public sector.”
Beyond providing an engaging product experience, the programme signals a larger movement: integrating EVs into government operations as a tangible step toward achieving national environmental targets. Gentari’s role in expanding EV charging accessibility further strengthens the public-private alliance necessary for Malaysia’s clean energy future.
To date, Gentari operates more than 530 EV charging points nationwide, pushing toward the ambitious goal of installing 10,000 public chargers by 2025, as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
As Malaysia accelerates its journey toward cleaner transportation, initiatives like “Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT” exemplify how collaboration between industry leaders and government bodies can drive real, lasting impact in the fight against climate change.
