BMW Group Malaysia has ignited a powerful celebration marking 50 years of the iconic BMW 3 Series — a model that has not only redefined the brand globally but also carved an indelible legacy in Malaysia’s automotive landscape since the 1970s. At the heart of the celebration is the unveiling of the New BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre, a limited-edition model that blends rich heritage with forward-thinking design and performance.
The BMW 3 Series has been the heartbeat of BMW’s identity for five decades. From its origins in 1975 with the BMW E21, designed by Paul Bracq, to the present-day G20 generation, each iteration has pushed boundaries in design, performance, and technological innovation.
- E21 (1975–1983) introduced the world to BMW’s signature sporty dynamics.
- E30 (1982–1991) brought the legendary M3 and the Touring variant, reflecting BMW’s design ingenuity.
- E36 (1990–1998) expanded versatility with multiple body styles and efficient engines.
- E46 (1997–2006) became a sales phenomenon and design benchmark.
- E90 (2005–2011) revolutionised aesthetics with Flame Surfacing and bold engineering.
- F30 (2011–2018) embraced hybrid powertrains and ushered in the 4 Series.
- G20 (2018–Present) continues the legacy with a wide range of drivetrains, connectivity, and autonomous innovations.
Each generation of the 3 Series has embodied BMW’s core philosophies: Technology Openness and the Power of Choice, ensuring the brand stays ahead of the curve while staying true to its driver-centric roots.
To commemorate the 50-year legacy, BMW Group Malaysia has introduced the BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre, strictly limited to 50 units and available exclusively online. This high-performance model comes loaded with luxury and M Performance enhancements — from Alcantara-wrapped interiors and carbon fibre gearshift paddles to unique “50 Jahre Edition” insignias and side skirt extensions.

While celebrating its heritage, BMW continues to charge ahead globally. In Q1 2025, BMW Group delivered 586,149 vehicles worldwide, maintaining strong performance from the previous year. Impressively, fully-electric vehicle deliveries surged by 32.4%, totalling 109,516 units — a clear indicator of the company’s leadership in premium electric mobility.
MINI also enjoyed a 4.1% year-on-year growth, with electric vehicles making up over a third of its deliveries, while BMW Motorrad reported robust demand for its two-wheeled offerings.
“Our performance is a testament to our strategic vision — balancing innovation with the Power of Choice,” said Jean-Philippe Parain, SVP for BMW Group’s Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions. “As we honour the 3 Series’ legacy, we look ahead with electrification and customer-centric technology at the core of our journey.”
BMW Malaysia is inviting enthusiasts and the public to relive the legacy at The Yard, Sentul Depot, from April 18 to 20, 2025. The event will showcase all seven generations of the BMW 3 Series and include hands-on driving experiences with the BMW 330i M Sport. It’s a rare opportunity to witness the evolution of a motoring icon up close.
As the BMW 3 Series marks its golden jubilee, it stands not just as a cornerstone of the BMW brand, but as a symbol of relentless innovation, driver passion, and premium engineering. With the launch of the BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre, BMW Malaysia bridges the past and the future — inviting drivers to celebrate history while accelerating toward tomorrow.
