Viper Niza Racing Team kicked off its 2025 endurance racing season with a triumphant performance at the Motul 12 Hours of Sepang. The Malaysian outfit secured victory in the GT AM Masters class and claimed second place in the GT AM class, showcasing their racing prowess and determination at the iconic Petronas Sepang International Circuit.
The dynamic trio of Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang, and Melvin Moh completed the grueling 12-hour race in sixth place overall, just four laps behind the overall winning Ferrari. Remarkably, this result mirrors their achievement from the previous year, highlighting the team’s consistency in endurance racing.
Success for Viper Niza Racing Team was forged well before the race even began. With just two days to prepare their Mercedes-AMG GT3, the team’s local mechanics worked tirelessly around the clock to ensure the car was in top condition for the free practice session. The engine rebuild was no easy feat, but the dedicated crew of 15 mechanics—an impressive mix of young talent and seasoned professionals—pulled off a remarkable effort to deliver a competitive and reliable machine.
Lead driver and Team Principal, Douglas Khoo, praised the relentless efforts of his team, stating, “This was a victory that belonged to the boys. The odds were initially stacked against us, but the car arrived in Malaysia just in time from a rebuild, and from then on they were at their absolute best, ensuring that we not only had a competitive car to race with but also a problem-free 12 hours of racing.”
Qualifying seventh fastest, Khoo took the wheel at the start and maintained consistent performance, allowing the team to solidify their lead in class from the halfway mark. The result serves as an encouraging start to their campaign, fueling hopes of maintaining momentum throughout the 2025 season.
Although the team was initially set to compete in its first European race at the 12 Hours of Mugello, logistical challenges have delayed their debut. Nonetheless, Viper Niza Racing remains focused, with five more endurance events on the calendar:
- 12 Hours of Spa Francorchamps (Belgium): April 18-20
- 12 Hours of Misano (Italy): May 23-24
- 12 Hours of Paul Ricard (France): July 3-5
- 24 Hours of Barcelona (Spain): September 26-28
- Shanghai 8 Hours (China): October
The team’s journey through the 2025 season is supported by a lineup of loyal sponsors, including Motul, Endless & Momentum Autoparts, and IWC as the Official Watch Brand. Additionally, Jen Orchard Gateway Hotel in Singapore continues to back the team, contributing to their quest for global success.
With their victory at Sepang and a robust calendar ahead, Viper Niza Racing Team is poised to make a strong impression in endurance racing throughout 2025.
