Stellantis is excited to announce its partnership with Teach For Malaysia (TFM) through the “EduPower for Quality Education” initiative. This collaboration is dedicated to improving educational access for underserved and indigenous communities, including B40 families, as well as Orang Asli and Orang Asal groups across Selangor, Perak, and Sarawak.
In Malaysia, education remains a challenge, with one in five children not completing secondary school and 58% of 15-year-olds failing to meet minimum proficiency levels in reading. Many students from underprivileged backgrounds struggle due to economic hardships, balancing work responsibilities with school, or lacking essential learning materials such as calculators and textbooks.
Rural schools face additional obstacles, including difficulty in recruiting high-quality teachers and a demanding education system that prioritizes administrative tasks. Limited resources and professional development opportunities further contribute to teacher burnout, affecting the quality of education provided.
Daniel Gonzalez, Chief Operating Officer for ASEAN at Stellantis, emphasized the importance of education as a pathway to economic and social progress. “Education is a key driver of mobility, and we all have a role to play in ensuring no community is left behind. Through our partnership with Teach For Malaysia, we aim to break the cycle of educational inequity and extend learning opportunities to those who need it most.”
The “EduPower for Quality Education” initiative will focus on building teaching capacity through TFM’s two-year Fellowship Programme. As part of this effort, 90 top talents will be trained and placed as TFM Fellows in high-need schools across Perak, Selangor, and Sarawak. Over two years, these educators will directly impact 19,950 students between the ages of 7 and 17, with a strong focus on foundational literacy and numeracy.
TFM CEO Chan Soon Seng highlighted the importance of partnerships in bridging the educational divide. “Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential through quality education. We are delighted to welcome Stellantis as a partner who shares our vision and is committed to empowering children across Malaysia. Together, we can drive meaningful change.”
Looking ahead, Stellantis and TFM will expand their efforts by launching a Student Leader Advisory Council as part of the initiative. This program aims to nurture leadership skills, provide mentorship, and connect students with Stellantis employees to inspire them to dream bigger and pursue greater opportunities.
