Proton experienced a significant 13.2% growth in sales during February 2025, marking a rebound after a slow start to the year. The company sold 11,232 units across its various business units—including domestic, export, smart, and Proton e.MAS—securing an estimated 17.2% market share from a projected Total Industry Volume (TIV) of 65,276 units.

While expanding its presence in the EV market, Proton remains committed to delivering high-quality internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In the first two months of 2025, three of its models led their respective segments in Year-To-Date (YTD) sales.

The Proton S70 continues to dominate the C-segment sedan category, offering an appealing mix of performance, space, connectivity, and value. With 2,340 units sold so far this year, it has held the top spot for two consecutive months.

In the B-segment SUV market, the Proton X50 maintains its status as a best-seller, with nearly 130,000 units sold since its launch in October 2020. February sales reached 1,824 units, bringing the 2025 total to 3,259 units. The Proton X90, Proton’s flagship SUV, led the D-segment SUV category, while the Proton X70 recorded 746 units sold last month.

Among Proton’s other models, the Proton Saga remains the brand’s best-selling vehicle, with 5,024 units sold in February. Meanwhile, the Proton Persona and Proton Iriz achieved 1,323 and 283 units, respectively.

February also marked a key milestone in Proton’s export strategy, with the first CKD left-hand drive Proton Saga units rolling off the assembly line at Egypt’s Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Automotive Factories (ESAF). This new facility, backed by a USD 50 million investment, has an annual production capacity of 40,000 vehicles and plays a crucial role in expanding Proton’s presence in Egypt and North Africa.

The factory’s focus on local component sourcing and future plans—including EV production—align with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and Proton’s long-term goal of having 10% of total sales come from export markets by 2030.

Proton’s electric vehicle, the Proton e.MAS 7, has captured the interest of EV enthusiasts, with over 4,500 bookings recorded as buyers take advantage of early bird packages. In February alone, 580 units were delivered, pushing total deliveries past 1,000 units—a sign that more Malaysians are ready to embrace EVs if they offer a compelling package.

Beyond Malaysia, the Proton e.MAS 7 is gaining traction in international markets. In February, 50 units were shipped to Nepal ahead of an official launch, while smaller batches were sent to Singapore and Trinidad & Tobago for evaluation.

“Sales for Proton rebounded in February after a slow start to 2025. While there is still some uncertainty regarding buyer liquidity, our overall sales trajectory remains positive. Our focus is on maintaining strong ICE sales while driving EV growth, particularly with the success of the Proton e.MAS 7. The challenge now is to keep the momentum going as we prepare for more model launches later this year,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar.
