In a significant move toward sustainable transportation, Grab Malaysia has partnered with BYD Sime Motors, Yinson Green Technologies (M), and Power-Up Tech (P.UP) to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption among its driver-partners nationwide. This collaboration aligns with Malaysia’s green economy initiatives by making EVs more accessible and reducing carbon emissions.

One of the biggest challenges in Southeast Asia’s EV market has been the high upfront cost, discouraging many from making the switch. Through this strategic partnership, Grab Malaysia is tackling this issue head-on, providing fleet partners and driver-partners with affordable EV access while also strengthening the country’s EV infrastructure.

Key initiatives under this collaboration include:

  • Expanding EV Ride-Hailing Services: Grab Malaysia plans to integrate EVs into its platform, offering exclusive car pricing and preferential leasing rates for driver-partners.
  • Developing EV Accessibility: Affordable EV ownership programs, charging infrastructure, and maintenance support will help ease the transition for Grab driver-partners.

Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility at Grab Malaysia, emphasized the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. “As a leading platform for on-demand transportation and delivery services, we aim to drive long-term benefits for both our driver-partners and the environment. By working with key industry players, we can accelerate EV adoption and contribute to Malaysia’s sustainability agenda,” he stated.

Government support plays a crucial role in this transition. During the MoU signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), Yang Berhormat Liew Chin Tong, highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts, including tax incentives and facilitation measures under the National Energy Transition Roadmap and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030. He commended Grab Malaysia and its partners for their role in shaping a greener mobility landscape.

Each partner in this collaboration brings unique expertise to enhance EV accessibility:

  • BYD Sime Motors is providing exclusive EV pricing and specialized training for Grab driver-partners.
  • Yinson GreenTech is offering preferential leasing, charging rates, and subscription plans to make EV ownership cost-effective.
  • Power-Up Tech (P.UP) is ensuring reliable charging solutions with on-demand mobile charging and EV rescue services.

With these initiatives in place, Grab Malaysia is paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable transportation ecosystem. By working closely with government agencies and industry leaders, the company is not only supporting Malaysia’s sustainability goals but also empowering its driver-partners with a future-ready, eco-friendly alternative.

As the country transitions toward a greener economy, Grab Malaysia’s commitment to EV adoption signals a transformative shift in the ride-hailing industry—one that benefits both people and the planet.
