As Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, AFA PRIME Berhad (formerly known as ANIH Berhad) has announced a comprehensive set of traffic management and safety measures to facilitate a smoother and safer journey for highway users. Anticipating a significant surge in traffic, the company is taking proactive steps to ensure efficient travel on key expressways.
With the festive season drawing near, the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) are preparing for a dramatic rise in traffic volume. Eastbound travel is expected to peak from 27 to 30 March, while the westbound return flow is projected from 4 to 6 April. During this period, the KLK is estimated to witness a 70% increase in daily traffic volume, from 110,000 to 187,000 vehicles. Meanwhile, LPT1 could see an 83% spike, from 41,000 to 75,000 vehicles per day.
To handle this surge, AFA PRIME Berhad is boosting its operational capacity by increasing the workforce in both the toll and traffic divisions by 21%. Patrol teams, Expressway Mobile Patrol Vehicles (EMPV) units, and RELA officers will be deployed at key congestion points, toll plazas, and rest areas to facilitate smoother traffic flow and ensure public safety.
Additionally, the Traffic Control Centre (TCC) will maintain real-time monitoring to swiftly address any emerging traffic issues. Strategically located 24-hour tow truck and emergency response services will be on standby to provide immediate assistance when needed.
In anticipation of higher visitor volumes at rest and relaxation (R&R) areas, AFA PRIME Berhad is upgrading facilities along the KLK and LPT1. Selected rest areas will be fitted with portable toilets, additional parking spaces, and an increased number of cleaning personnel to maintain hygiene and comfort. Furthermore, all petrol stations along the highways will operate around the clock throughout the festive period.
Reflecting its commitment to community well-being, AFA PRIME Berhad, in collaboration with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA), will distribute 2,000 iftar kits to road users at the Gombak Toll Plaza on 27 March 2025 as part of the Jom Balik Kampung initiative. These kits are intended to offer essential nourishment to travelers breaking their fast while on the road, fostering a sense of togetherness and care during Ramadan.
Datin Radzimah binti Mohd Radzi, Executive Director of AFA PRIME Berhad, shared, “Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a time of togetherness, reflection, and joy. As families embark on their journeys to celebrate with loved ones, our priority is to ensure their travels are smooth, safe, and worry-free. With enhanced traffic management, increased personnel, and continuous monitoring, we are committed to making this festive season a seamless experience for all highway users.”
