Porsche Malaysia in collaboration with Porsche Asia Pacific, has introduced an environmental protection program aimed at empowering school children at a local public elementary school.
“As with the previous stops of Join the Porsche Ride, our goal is to foster empowerment through education. We encourage our students to be the agents of change within their families and communities,” said Hannes Ruoff, CEO of Porsche Asia Pacific.
The program, named Sahabat Lestari and supported by the Malaysian NGO Free Tree Society, emphasizes environmental awareness, responsible habits, and the integration of these principles into daily school routines.
Heinz Alexy, Vice President of Supply Chain Management and External Production, expressed his enthusiasm: “We have created a social project that not only inspires future generations but also empowers and prepares them for future challenges.”
Key activities include age-appropriate workshops, the planting of a mini jungle within the school grounds, and a 30-day recycling challenge. Students are encouraged to recycle materials such as paper and plastic from everyday school life. Upon completion, participants are awarded the title of “Eco-Ambassador” to recognize their efforts.
“Together, we aim to make a tangible difference by striving to generate positive environmental and social impacts while fostering change through collective efforts,” said Christopher Hunter, CEO of Sime Darby Auto Performance.
By anchoring the initiative in schools, the program encourages children to bring environmental practices into their homes while transforming the school into a community recycling hub.
Sui Keng Huat, Managing Director of Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd, commended the initiative, saying, “The multi-stage approach not only creates a special learning experience but also a connection to the community and society.”
Looking ahead, the program is set to expand to other locations across Malaysia by 2025. Carolyn Lau, Managing Director of Free Tree Society, expressed excitement about the future: “Together with all partners, we will achieve measurable results and successes, making a valuable contribution to environmental protection in Malaysia.”
