DHL Supply Chain has officially opened its state-of-the-art Penang Logistics Hub 5 in Malaysia, a 22,000-square-meter facility designed to support a leading global technology company. Situated in the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, the two-story warehouse enjoys a prime location just minutes from Penang International Airport.
With an investment of €30 million in construction and an additional €12 million dedicated to cutting-edge robotic automation, the facility is at the forefront of modern logistics. It marks DHL Supply Chain’s first global implementation of Automated Case-handling Mobile Robots (ACR) and Goods-to-Person Robotics (GTPR), seamlessly integrated alongside an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS).
Mario Lorenz, Managing Director of DHL Supply Chain Malaysia, emphasized the significance of these advancements: “We take pride in being the first within DHL Supply Chain to deploy such sophisticated automation, including the ACR for tote retrieval and GTPR, where mobile robots manage bin storage and retrieval. We are also introducing Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to boost productivity and efficiency, setting a new benchmark for logistics operations. These innovations, combined with our expertise, enable us to provide seamless, customized logistics solutions that enhance business resilience and operational efficiency—ultimately offering our customers a lasting competitive edge.”
Designed with sustainability in mind, the Penang Logistics Hub 5 aligns with Malaysia’s Green Building Index standards. It incorporates eco-friendly features such as rooftop solar panels to power both warehouse and office spaces, rainwater harvesting systems, and energy-efficient LED lighting with motion sensors. Additionally, its superflat flooring enhances long-term operational flexibility while optimizing storage capacity.
The launch of this cutting-edge facility underscores DHL’s commitment to expansion, backed by a €131 million investment in Malaysia aimed at scaling capacity and developing top-tier talent.
