Proton wrapped up 2024 with a stellar performance, achieving total sales of 152,352 units (domestic and export), securing its position as the second-best automotive brand in Malaysia. December proved to be a strong finish, with 14,601 units sold—a 19.7% increase over November—marking the year’s second-highest monthly sales. Exports also hit a peak, with 1,131 units shipped overseas.

The launch of Proton’s first electric vehicle (EV), the Proton e.MAS 7, signaled its entry into the EV market, complementing its robust traditional lineup. Including the sales of 622 smart #1 and #3 models under subsidiary PRO-NET, Proton’s total sales for 2024 reached 152,974 units.

The total industry volume (TIV) for Malaysia in 2024 reached an estimated 813,521 units, marking a record-breaking year. Proton captured an 18.7% market share, maintaining its second-place rank for the sixth consecutive year and setting the stage for 2025.

The Proton Saga led the brand’s lineup, with 72,769 units sold in 2024—a 3.7% increase from the previous year. As the model approaches its 40th anniversary, it continues to shine as Malaysia’s first vehicle to surpass 2 million sales, a milestone achieved in June 2023.

The Proton S70 made a strong debut, delivering 19,182 units in its first full year and claiming the title of the most popular C-segment sedan in Malaysia. Customer feedback highlighted its appealing design, performance, and value for money.

Proton’s SUVs also posted remarkable numbers. The 2024 Proton X50, launched in June, recorded 23,647 units sold, making it the best-selling B-segment SUV for the fourth year in a row. The 2025 Proton X70, unveiled in August, managed 8,992 units, with year-end promotions boosting December sales by 36.7%. The flagship Proton X90 also performed well, leading the D-segment SUV category with 3,553 units sold.

Other notable performers included the Proton Persona, which sold 18,853 units, and the Proton Iriz, with 5,113 units sold in 2024.

Proton’s export sales grew by 31%, with 4,765 units shipped to 18 countries. Egypt emerged as the top destination, importing 1,748 units, followed by Brunei, which set a new record with 1,200 units. The Saga remained the top export model, contributing 61% of the total volume.

Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar, celebrated the year’s milestones, emphasizing Proton’s resilience amid fierce competition and its EV transition. “We are proud to maintain our position as Malaysia’s second most popular automotive brand while introducing our first EV model,” he said. Looking to 2025, Proton aims to build on the success of its Saga and SUV models, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, reliability, and international growth.
