Proton recorded total sales of 12,194 units (domestic and export) in November, a modest decline of 4.7% compared to October. This aligns with the overall contraction of 4.1% in Malaysia’s total industry volume (TIV) for the month. Despite this dip, the company achieved a year-to-date (YTD) sales total of 137,751 units, maintaining its position as the second most popular automotive brand in the country. Proton’s forecasted market share for November stands at 18.2%, contributing to a robust 18.8% YTD figure for 2024.

While November saw a slight slowdown in sales across the industry, the Malaysian automotive market continues to outperform the previous year. By the end of November, the YTD TIV was approximately 10,000 units higher than at the same time in 2023. With an estimated 731,026 units sold so far, the market is on track to surpass 800,000 units for the first time, securing Malaysia’s position as ASEAN’s second-largest passenger vehicle market in 2024.

Proton’s newest addition, the 2025 Proton X70, showed promising growth with a 7.7% increase in sales compared to October, reaching 1,065 units in November. This brought its YTD total to 7,536 units, reclaiming the top spot in the C-segment SUV market for vehicles priced below RM130,000. Launched in mid-August, the updated X70 boasts enhanced exterior styling, upgraded interior features, improved ADAS Level 2 safety technology, and retains its predecessor’s price.

Three Proton models dominated their respective segments in November. The Proton X50, the company’s flagship B-segment SUV, continued to lead its category with 1,911 units sold in November, raising its YTD sales to 21,033 units. Since its launch in 2020, the X50 has become Malaysia’s best-selling SUV and a benchmark in its segment.

The larger Proton X90 sustained its leadership in the D-segment SUV category, achieving 277 units sold in November, a 13.1% growth compared to October. Its YTD sales now total 3,246 units. Similarly, the C-segment sedan Proton S70 celebrated key milestones last month, including its debut race in the 2024 Sepang 1000km event and its first anniversary. With 1,312 units sold in November, the S70’s YTD sales reached 17,512 units, solidifying its segment leadership.

Other Proton models also performed well. The Proton Saga maintained its dominance as the brand’s top-selling model, with 5,916 units sold in November, bringing its YTD total to 66,094 units. The Saga is on course to exceed 70,000 annual sales for the second consecutive year. The Proton Persona contributed 1,394 units in November, reaching a YTD total of 17,325 units, while the Proton Iriz added 319 units, raising its YTD sales to 4,762 units.

Proton’s export performance showed remarkable growth, driven primarily by the left-hand drive (LHD) Proton Saga. In November, 480 units were shipped to Egypt—a 300% increase from October. So far, 2,203 Saga units have been exported in 2024, pushing Proton’s total export volume beyond last year’s figures.

The company’s efforts in Egypt have been particularly noteworthy. After shipping CKD packs to the country in September, Proton’s local partner established a new assembly plant in Cairo to produce the Saga for the Egyptian and broader Middle Eastern markets. With growing demand in other export markets, Proton’s cumulative export sales for 2024 reached 3,652 units, surpassing last year’s total of 3,636 units.
