Perodua has officially revealed the eMO-II (pronounced M-O-2), the next evolution of its prototype battery electric vehicle (EV), at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024).

“This prototype represents the continuation of our journey into EV technology, which we are building from the ground up,” said Perodua President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, during the unveiling. “The eMO-II showcases significant advancements in styling and features compared to its predecessor, providing a clearer vision of our EV future.”

The eMO-II’s design reflects a harmonious blend of futuristic aesthetics and Malaysian identity. Notably, its styling draws inspiration from the traditional Malaysian songket, seamlessly integrated with modern LED lighting to enhance its visual appeal.

“While the eMO-II is still a prototype, we are actively working to refine it further. Many additional features and improvements will be incorporated into the final product, which we plan to introduce in the near future,” Dato’ Sri Zainal explained.

Perodua’s Research and Development team undertook the project entirely in-house in 2023, overcoming significant challenges along the way.

“It has been a steep learning curve as our team collaborated with various consultants to master the complexities of EV technology. Despite the challenges, I am proud to say we have stayed on schedule and are excited to share our progress,” he added.

Perodua is also partnering with Malaysian corporations to ensure comprehensive support for EV ownership, focusing on making their vehicles efficient, user-friendly, and well-supported by local infrastructure.

“Our aim is to provide greater mobility for all our customers. This includes creating a seamless EV ownership experience, supported by Malaysia’s best infrastructure providers,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal.

He expressed gratitude to the government, particularly the Prime Minister and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), for backing Perodua’s efforts in advancing Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem into the EV era.

“Electrification is not just about transforming the way we drive; it is also a commitment to combating climate change by reducing our carbon footprint. We fully support this mission and are committed to making it a reality,” he said.

In addition to unveiling the eMO-II, Perodua showcased its Ativa Fuze concept and highlighted key milestones from its 30-year journey at the event. Visitors to KLIMS 2024 are invited to experience Perodua’s innovative offerings firsthand at their booth.
