Building on the success of a pilot project in Indonesia in 2021, Michelin is ramping up efforts to reduce single-use plastics by eliminating plastic wrap on motorcycle tires across key Southeast Asian markets. Beginning December 1, 2024, Michelin Malaysia will join this initiative, offering its premium motorcycle tires without plastic wrap to authorized dealers nationwide.
This step is part of a larger regional effort that has already achieved significant environmental impact, cutting an estimated 317,700 kilograms of plastic waste in 2024 across five major Southeast Asian countries: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Additionally, the initiative aligns with Michelin’s global ambition to achieve zero net waste from tire wraps, marking an essential milestone toward sustainable mobility.
“This initiative reflects Michelin’s commitment to our ‘All Sustainable’ vision, which aims to balance growth with the planet’s ecological limits,” said Prichapakorn Dangrojana, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. “Under our ‘4R’ circular economy approach—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Renewable—we are proud to continue delivering the high-performance motorcycle tires Michelin is renowned for while advancing sustainability.”
He added, “At Michelin Malaysia, we place our consumers at the heart of everything we do. As eco-consciousness grows, we are excited to offer our customers an opportunity to contribute to environmental protection. By eliminating plastic wrap, Malaysia joins the ranks of other Michelin markets that are taking tangible steps to combat plastic pollution.”
To ensure convenience, Michelin has re-designed the sticker label affixed directly to the tire tread. These labels include all necessary information for quick and easy identification. Customers can also enjoy the same six-year warranty coverage against manufacturing and material defects, maintaining the high level of satisfaction Michelin is known for.
