Mercedes-Benz Malaysia recently concluded the Mercedes-Benz South East Asia II SkillsMaster Competition 2024, a landmark event highlighting its dedication to service excellence and professional development across the region. Coinciding with this celebration, the company proudly graduated 16 apprentices from its Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (AMA) Program. These achievements reflect Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to cultivating innovation, skill, and quality in Malaysia and beyond.

The SkillsMaster Competition is a platform designed to enhance morale and motivation among customer service personnel, elevating their expertise to meet international standards. This year, the competition attracted 591 participants from 12 South East Asian markets, competing across six key categories:

  • Qualified Maintenance Technician (QMT)
  • Qualified System Technician (QST)
  • Certified Diagnosis Technician (CDT)
  • Certified Service Advisor (CSA)
  • Qualified Parts Process Specialist (QPPS)
  • Top End Customer Care (TECC)

Over five months, participants underwent rigorous qualifying rounds to test their technical skills, product knowledge, and alignment with the high standards of safety, quality, and customer service synonymous with Mercedes-Benz. Each category was meticulously designed to assess diverse skills, from technical proficiency to operational efficiency, ensuring participants excelled at international benchmarks.

Alongside the competition, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia continues to develop the next generation of automotive experts through its Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (AMA) Program. This flagship initiative is integral to creating a highly skilled workforce for the automotive industry. The 16 graduates, now globally certified, will join the company’s Customer Services network, which boasts over 1,000 skilled service personnel across Malaysia.

Graduates of the AMA Program leave with globally recognized credentials, including:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles
  • Malaysia Skills Certificate Level 3
  • Mercedes-Benz High Voltage Qualification

These qualifications place them at the forefront of automotive service excellence, ready to meet the demands of the evolving industry.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia invests approximately RM100,000 per apprentice, underscoring its commitment to fostering top-tier talent. Post-graduation, apprentices can advance their careers through a structured certification ladder, progressing to roles such as Certified Diagnosis Technician or Certified Service Advisor.

The brand’s dedication to education extends to its collaboration with Montfort Boys Town (Montfort), aimed at inspiring students to pursue careers in the automotive sector. This partnership empowers Montfort trainers with technical expertise, enabling them to elevate their students’ skills to industry standards and prepare them for programs like the AMA.
