Malaysia’s First National EV Is Finally Here, Proton e.MAS7

Proton’s much-anticipated entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market became a reality today as its new energy vehicle arm, PRO-NET, launched the Proton e.MAS 7. This milestone event, officiated by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, signifies a major step in advancing the nation’s sustainable mobility agenda and reducing its carbon footprint.

As Malaysia’s first national EV, the Proton e.MAS 7 represents a significant stride towards achieving the objectives of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). This includes transforming the country into a net-zero emissions nation by 2050. The launch of the e.MAS brand and the Proton e.MAS 7 underscores Proton’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in transportation.

The Proton e.MAS 7 is the result of a close partnership between Proton and Geely, with over 700,000 man-hours invested in its development. Engineers tested the model across 100,000 km of Malaysia’s diverse terrain and challenging weather conditions, ensuring its reliability and performance.

Available in Prime and Premium variants, the Proton e.MAS 7 is offered in five stylish colors: Platinum Silver, Turquoise Green, Slate Grey, Quartz Rose, and Lithium White. These tones accentuate the SUV’s sleek design, embodying a modern and dynamic silhouette.

Under the tagline “Intelligence that Electrifies,” the Proton e.MAS 7 integrates advanced features to deliver a superior driving experience. Built on the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform, it utilizes a world-leading 12-in-1 intelligent electric propulsion system, combined with innovative Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery architecture. The vehicle also debuts the Aegis Short-Blade Battery, a new generation lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that enhances safety, efficiency, and performance.

The C-segment SUV includes L2-ADAS (Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System) and a 360° View Camera, earning a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. Its electric drive unit generates 160kW and 320Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.9 seconds. It also boasts a braking distance of only 35 meters from 100km/h.

The Prime variant features a 49.52kWh battery with a WLTP range of 345km, while the Premium variant offers a 60.22kWh battery extending the range to 410km. Both variants support DC fast charging, achieving a 30-80% charge in approximately 20 minutes. In just 10 minutes, drivers can recover up to 135km of range.

Inside, the Proton e.MAS 7 offers a premium experience with ventilated seats, ample legroom, and 33 storage compartments. Entertainment is elevated with a 16-speaker Flyme Sound system featuring WANOS technology and 256-color ambient lighting. A 15.4-inch, 2.5K resolution touchscreen Display Head Unit provides an integrated charging map covering over 1,700 charging points nationwide, supported by collaborations with leading operators like Gentari, JomCharge, chargEV, and others.

Proton aims to replicate its domestic success in the international market, starting with exports to Singapore, Trinidad & Tobago, Mauritius, and Nepal in 2025. Domestically, PRO-NET has appointed 37 dealers nationwide, with 30 expected to be operational by the end of 2024.
