Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (Auto ConneXion) recently taken a remarkable step to uplift the Orang Asli community in Kampung Sungai Urat, Gerik, Perak.
In collaboration with the youth-led international NGO MyFundAction, the initiative launched on November 23, 2024, focused on improving sustainable access to clean water, providing health screenings, and raising awareness about health and hygiene. These efforts directly benefit more than 300 community members, underscoring Auto ConneXion-Ford’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainability.
The project was made possible through a USD10,000 contribution from Ford Philanthropy, the charitable arm of Ford Motor Company. This funding supported the installation of water tanks and essential piping infrastructure, delivering Kampung Sungai Urat its first sustainable source of clean water.
A team of 30 Auto ConneXion staff volunteers played a hands-on role, utilizing a boring technique to tap into deep groundwater sources. This method ensures a safe, long-lasting water supply that is not only cost-effective over time but also vital for community agriculture and industry.
Beyond water access, the initiative extended to health screenings conducted by Auto ConneXion volunteers in partnership with MyFundAction. These screenings provided critical health evaluations to community members.
To support long-term well-being, the volunteers organized interactive sessions for children, emphasizing the importance of health and hygiene. These activities aimed to instill sustainable habits, contributing to healthier futures for the younger generation.
MyFundAction, recognized globally for its youth-driven community empowerment, played a pivotal role in the project. The NGO focuses on sustainable development in areas such as food security, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Similarly, Ford Philanthropy aligns with these goals, fostering equity and social progress through initiatives that expand access to essential services and promote entrepreneurship.
This initiative exemplifies the power of collaboration in creating meaningful change, showcasing Auto ConneXion and Ford’s dedication to empowering communities through innovative and sustainable solutions.
