As Malaysia accelerates its transition to a sustainable, electrified future, Sapura Industrial Berhad (SIB) has taken a significant step forward. Through its subsidiary, SIB Ventures Sdn Bhd, SIB has formalized a joint venture (JV) agreement with Mili Tech Sdn Bhd, forming a new entity: SIB Mili Sdn Bhd. This collaboration aims to play a pivotal role in Malaysia’s electrified vehicle (xEV) sector by providing innovative solutions and services to support the nation’s sustainable mobility goals.

This partnership, grounded in successful feasibility studies conducted following a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in April 2024, is set to address critical areas necessary for Malaysia’s xEV ecosystem. The JV’s strategic focus includes:

  • Comprehensive after-sales service and maintenance for xEVs.
  • Battery refurbishment, repurposing, and recycling (3R) to minimize environmental impact.
  • Training and certification programs aimed at developing local talent for xEV-related skills.

Headquartered in Kajang, SIB Mili Sdn Bhd is planning the launch of three flagship service centers over the next three years, serving as key facilities to advance xEV support across the region.

This venture aligns closely with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (2021-2030) and the National Automotive Policy (NAP 2020), both of which emphasize EV adoption, sustainability, and resource efficiency. The ultimate goal is to establish Malaysia as a regional hub for next-generation vehicles.

The timing of this JV coincides with Malaysia’s enhanced push towards expanding its xEV infrastructure to meet the government’s target of 15% EV adoption by 2030. By pooling the expertise of SIB and Mili Tech, the new venture is poised to contribute substantially to Malaysia’s green mobility vision.

This partnership reflects Malaysia’s comprehensive commitment to a sustainable EV sector, with key government initiatives including:

  • The Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (2021-2030), targeting reduced carbon emissions from transport.
  • The National Automotive Policy (NAP 2020), which promotes next-generation vehicles and green technology.
  • Incentives to boost EV ownership, including tax breaks and subsidies for charging infrastructure.

Through this JV, SIB Mili Sdn Bhd is set to drive Malaysia’s xEV sector forward, helping realize the nation’s vision for sustainable and efficient mobility solutions in the years to come.
