The 2024 Art of Speed event shined a spotlight on the RXZ Twin Boss V2 by FNG Works, which captured both the Jury Pick and Public Choice Award at the prestigious Art of Speed Invitational Bike Build Off. With this double win, the RXZ Twin Boss V2 will represent Malaysia at the 32nd Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2024 in Japan, where it will join top custom vehicles from around the world.
FNG Works, the creative force behind the RXZ Twin Boss V2, is led by 33-year-old Mohamad Irwann Bin Mohd Azlan, affectionately known as Cheng. A mechanical engineering graduate from UiTM Shah Alam, Cheng draws inspiration from Malaysian builders such as Khalid “The Rusty Factory,” Omar Jumiran, Padin Musa, Hills Angels, Azizan Rahim, and Acid Welding, along with international icons Maxwell Hazan, Allen Millyard, Ed Roth, Arlen Ness, and Sure Shot.
The RXZ Twin Boss V2’s journey began in 2017 when FNG Works introduced the original RXZ Twin Boss, powered by two Yamaha RXZ 135cc engines in a ‘Digger’ style, where one engine was positioned in front of the other, connected via a chain-driven crank. The bike, built with an unconventional design and impressive engineering, was ultimately given away as a grand prize at Art of Speed 2017.
For the latest edition, the RXZ Twin Boss V2 has undergone a transformation. Cheng innovatively merged two Yamaha RXZ engines into a single 2-cylinder unit, crafting a streamlined, cohesive build around it. His aim was to create an aesthetically pleasing motorcycle with harmonious proportions, which some describe as a fusion of ‘Board Tracker’ and ‘Land Speed Racer’ styles. He added, “I wanted to achieve the highest level of precision and fabrication possible.”
The Art of Speed Malaysia team is fully behind Cheng’s venture, sponsoring his journey to Japan with a budget of RM60,000 covering logistics, flights, and accommodations. To mark the occasion, AOS will produce a short film, “RXZ Balik Kampung: Dari Ipoh ke Yokohama,” tracing the RXZ Twin Boss V2’s journey from Ipoh to Yokohama. Directed by Hanif Sulhi, known for his award-winning series Fail Mahkamah TV3, the film will feature Cheng and AOS Creative Director Farid Nabawi. Set to premiere as a six-part series on Christmas Day 2024 across AOS’s social media, the film will also be submitted to multiple international film festivals.
Through this high-profile participation, Art of Speed Malaysia aims to bring global recognition to Malaysian craftsmanship and customization. AOS Festival Director Asep Ahmad expressed gratitude for the ongoing support that allows Malaysian talent to shine internationally: “We are thrilled for FNG Works to showcase their skill at this renowned event and hope many more will follow their path to becoming world-class custom builders.”
The AOS team, including 15 members, will support FNG Works throughout their six-day journey in Japan. The event’s ground logistics will be supported by KEJOS AUTOPROJECT, ensuring a smooth experience at the 32nd Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show.
