Proton reported a total of 12,799 vehicle sales in October (domestic and export combined), marking a 13.6% rise from the previous month. This momentum has propelled Proton’s year-to-date (YTD) sales volume to 125,557 units, setting the company on track for a sixth consecutive year of growth. Proton currently holds the position as Malaysia’s second most popular car brand, achieving an estimated 18.1% market share in October and 18.9% YTD.

The automotive sector rebounded in October following a sales dip in the prior month. With various automakers pushing year-end offers, total industry volume (TIV) reached approximately 70,668 units in October, crossing the 70,000-unit threshold for the fifth time this year and positioning the industry to set a new record by the close of 2024.

Among Proton’s lineup, the iconic Proton Saga continues to be a top choice for Malaysian drivers. Since its debut on July 9, 1985, the Saga has become synonymous with affordability, safety, and reliability. In October alone, 6,112 Saga units were sold, bringing its YTD total to over 60,178 units. With two months left in the year, Proton aims for the Saga to exceed 70,000 units for the second consecutive year, targeting 72,000 units by year-end.

In addition to the Saga, three other Proton models lead their respective segments. The Proton X50 dominated the B-segment SUV category, selling 2,122 units in October and solidifying its YTD lead. Known for its modern design, performance, and advanced safety features, the X50 has maintained strong market demand despite increasing competition.

The Proton S70 sedan reclaimed its status as the best-selling C-segment sedan in October, with 1,432 units sold, boosting its YTD total to 16,200 units. Proton plans to promote the S70 further, with the model set to represent the brand at the upcoming Sepang 1000km Endurance Race. Meanwhile, Proton’s flagship X90 SUV topped D-segment SUV sales, delivering 245 units in October and reaching 2,969 units YTD.

Other Proton models also performed well in October. The Proton Persona, with 1,520 units sold, ranked third among B-segment sedans. The Proton X70 and Iriz achieved 989 and 379 units, respectively, keeping their competitive positions within their segments.

Proton’s CEO, Roslan Abdullah, acknowledged that the final quarter of 2024 will bring challenges as new brands and models intensify competition in the automotive market. While the increased TIV may surpass 800,000 units for a second consecutive year, Roslan stressed that Proton’s focus remains on preserving vehicle value through high product quality and strong service across its 157 nationwide 3S/4S outlets.

Looking ahead, Proton is gearing up for a stronger presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market. The Proton e.MAS 7, previewed to thousands of potential buyers, will officially launch in December, supported by 36 Proton dealers. Additionally, Proton is rolling out over-the-air (OTA) updates to enhance user experiences across its intelligent vehicle range, aiming to provide greater value for current owners and drive innovation into 2025 and beyond.
