FedEx Express Corporation is making a significant stride towards sustainability by adding 31 electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet in Singapore. This move makes Singapore the first market in the FedEx Asia Pacific network to integrate the custom-built Mercedes-Benz eVito 112 panel vans into its operations. These EVs, equipped with a 923 kg load capacity and a range of up to 321 kilometers per charge, are expected to collectively reduce approximately 148 metric tons of annual tailpipe emissions compared to diesel-powered vans.

The initiative is part of FedEx Singapore’s commitment to replacing end-of-life vehicles with EVs, aligning with the company’s global goal to electrify 100% of its new vehicle purchases by 2030. This deployment marks a crucial step toward achieving zero tailpipe emissions for last-mile delivery operations globally, reinforcing FedEx’s sustainability focus in Singapore.

FedEx is also advancing clean energy integration to support its EVs. Starting January 2025, its South Pacific Regional Hub in Singapore will harness solar power to meet over half its electricity needs. This initiative complements Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 by reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy use.

Beyond Singapore, FedEx is expanding its EV footprint across Asia Pacific markets, including China, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, and New Zealand. To enhance fleet efficiency, the company employs an AI-powered Stops Sequencing tool to optimize delivery routes in real time, reducing mileage, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions.

“FedEx is committed to connecting people and opportunities in smarter, more sustainable ways,” said Kawal Preet, president of FedEx Asia Pacific. “Introducing these EVs demonstrates meaningful progress in lowering greenhouse gas emissions and improving efficiency, supporting Singapore’s ambitious sustainability initiatives. This milestone brings us closer to our goal of carbon-neutral operations by 2040.”

FedEx’s sustainability efforts extend beyond vehicle electrification. Earlier this year, the company completed its first EV-powered cross-border delivery between Malaysia and Singapore, recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records. Electric tricycles are being utilized for last-mile deliveries in urban areas in Taiwan, while Japan and Thailand have adopted electric trucks and vans.

Additionally, FedEx has launched the FedEx® Sustainability Insights tool, a cloud-based platform providing customers with historical emissions data for eligible shipments. This tool empowers customers to make environmentally conscious shipping decisions and contribute to reducing their carbon footprint.
