UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) is set to lead vital discussions on sustainable mobility as the official Beyond Zero Partner at the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia 2024 (IGEM). Running from October 9 to 11, 2024, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the event will highlight Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to Carbon Neutrality, a core element of the company’s global vision.
Toyota’s participation underscores its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by leveraging multiple technologies, rather than relying on a single solution. Its multi-pathway approach incorporates a range of innovations, including hybrid electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell technology, to immediately address emissions across various mobility scenarios. Featured at the event will be cutting-edge models such as the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle and the Innova Zenix Hybrid Electric, showcasing the automaker’s dedication to sustainable transportation.
“We are dedicated to delivering practical solutions that cater to the evolving needs of our customers, while also supporting Malaysia’s carbon reduction goals,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor. “Our Multi-Pathway approach demonstrates that sustainability requires a combination of technologies that deliver both immediate impact and long-term potential. By embracing this wide array of innovations, we ensure that Malaysians have access to environmentally friendly, reliable, and accessible mobility options.”
Toyota’s approach is particularly relevant to Asia, where varying levels of green technology adoption present unique challenges. By offering diverse solutions, Toyota provides flexibility for customers to reduce emissions without sacrificing performance or accessibility.
A highlight of Toyota’s leadership in sustainable mobility will be on October 10, 2024, when Pras Ganesh, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Asia, delivers a keynote address at Mobility-X, a key segment of IGEM focused on the future of transportation. Mobility-X will bring together industry leaders and innovators to explore how integrated mobility solutions can address the climate crisis and advance cleaner, smarter transport systems across Asia.
In his keynote, Ganesh will outline Toyota’s commitment to achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050 through its Multi-Pathway approach. He will emphasize the need for a comprehensive strategy that addresses emissions throughout a vehicle’s life cycle—from production to disposal. “By offering technologies ranging from fuel-efficient internal combustion engines powered by alternative energy, to hybrid, battery electric, and hydrogen-powered vehicles, we can accelerate the region’s transition to a sustainable future,” Ganesh noted.
As the global transportation sector is a major contributor to carbon emissions, the move toward green mobility has become critical. Toyota, with over 23 million electrified vehicles sold worldwide, continues to be a leader in this shift. Its pioneering work in hybrid technology has significantly reduced emissions and paved the way for further advancements in battery electric and hydrogen vehicles.
In Malaysia, Toyota remains at the forefront of this green transition, expanding its portfolio of electrified vehicles in alignment with the government’s carbon reduction efforts. Toyota’s presence at IGEM reaffirms this commitment, showcasing practical and scalable solutions tailored to both consumer needs and national environmental goals.
IGEM 2024 will be officially launched on October 10 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, with several high-ranking officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, in attendance.
