Sime Darby Motors recently reached an impressive achievement by selling over 10,000 BYD cars across the nation. To mark this occasion, the company organized a special event called the “BYD Dream Drive Melaka 2024,” a convoy journey for BYD owners. Melaka was chosen as the destination for this celebration, aligning with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, a fitting tribute given the state’s historical ties to China dating back to the 15th century.
The convoy, which featured over 60 BYD cars, was flagged off from the BYD showroom in Ara Damansara. BYD owners embarked on an exciting two-day, one-night trip to Melaka, strengthening community bonds and celebrating their shared passion for electric vehicles.
In Melaka, participants were treated to a cultural experience with a visit to Encore Melaka, where they enjoyed a captivating performance of the “Puteri Hang Li Po Musical Theatre.” This show, inspired by the historical romance between Sultan Mansur Shah and the Ming Dynasty princess Hang Li Po, paid homage to the golden anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, adding a meaningful cultural layer to the event.
Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia at Sime Darby Motors, remarked, “This milestone reflects the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the region and reinforces Sime Darby’s leadership in the EV sector. Our dedication to offering top-tier experiences and services through our partnership with BYD has driven this success.”
Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, echoed these sentiments: “This milestone is a testament to the trust and support of our customers, who are embracing the future of mobility with BYD. It’s been a remarkable journey with Sime Darby Motors, and we’re excited to continue enhancing sustainable driving experiences in Malaysia.”
Looking ahead, BYD Cars Malaysia is setting its sights on reaching the next 10,000-vehicle milestone even faster. As the brand expands its footprint, BYD remains committed to delivering cutting-edge smart electric vehicles that meet the evolving demands of Malaysian consumers while pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology.
BYD has firmly established itself as Malaysia’s leading electric vehicle brand, a success driven by its focus on network expansion and exceptional customer experience. The brand’s growth in Malaysia reflects the increasing acceptance and enthusiasm for electric vehicles in the region.
As part of the celebration, Sime Darby Motors also emphasized the significance of BYD’s expanding network, which now includes 26 showrooms nationwide, comprising 19 dealer partners, 16 BYD 3S centers, and 10 BYD 1S centers. BYD aims to expand to 30 showrooms by the end of 2024, ensuring that customers across Malaysia continue to receive seamless service and support.
Sime Darby Motors expressed its gratitude to all BYD owners for their support and commitment to embracing the future of electric mobility in Malaysia.
