Proton has marked a significant milestone in Malaysia’s automotive industry with the debut of its first electric vehicle (EV), the Proton e.MAS 7. The groundbreaking SUV recently completed the first leg of its nationwide tour, traveling an impressive 894 kilometers across the southern states, introducing Malaysians to the future of sustainable mobility. This journey is the first of many stops on the tour, which will eventually see the e.MAS 7 cover more than 2,000 kilometers across the country.
Designed to navigate Malaysia’s unique road conditions and weather, the Proton e.MAS 7 offers a glimpse of what electrified transport could look like in the region. Proton’s engineers have meticulously developed the vehicle to meet the country’s needs, ensuring that it resonates with local drivers as it approaches its official launch later this year.
The e.MAS 7’s adventure kicked off at the Proton Centre of Excellence, journeying south to Negeri Sembilan where the vehicle was displayed at the iconic Minangkabau State Museum. Its modern, sleek lines drew admiration as it contrasted with the museum’s traditional architecture. A stop in Melaka followed, where the futuristic EV stood out against the historical A’Famosa fortress, highlighting its stylish and contemporary design.
Throughout the tour, Proton made strategic stops at various local landmarks, giving the public an up-close look at the e.MAS 7. Despite being partially camouflaged, the SUV’s distinctive features, such as concealed door handles and LED taillights, were hard to miss. Locals were particularly impressed with the e.MAS 7’s size, as it stands as the largest fully electric SUV in its segment.
Even stormy weather couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of curious onlookers who flocked to see the e.MAS 7 in action. The tour was further energized by community engagements at popular eateries, where locals participated in interactive games and activities.
At select Proton dealerships in Melaka and Johor, over a thousand attendees explored the vehicle’s cutting-edge features. Among the highlights were its advanced Cell-to-Body (CTB) architecture and the 12-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive system. Proton also emphasized the SUV’s smart design, which blends practicality with innovation.
Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, remarked on the overwhelming response, noting that the tour has strengthened Proton’s relationship with the community. He expressed excitement about the public’s positive feedback, especially regarding the spacious interior and sleek design, which remained impressive even while camouflaged. According to Zhang, the Proton e.MAS 7 is set to redefine EV standards in Malaysia.
Having completed the southern leg of the tour, the Proton e.MAS 7 is now heading north, with planned stops in Perak, Penang, Kedah, and Perlis. As the tour continues, Malaysians will have even more opportunities to experience this innovative EV up close.
