The Isuzu D-Max has once again proven its reputation for exceptional fuel efficiency. In an impressive feat, three units of the latest Isuzu D-Max managed to travel an astonishing 2,000 kilometers using only the contents of a single 76-liter fuel tank.
This achievement reaffirms the D-Max’s fuel-saving capabilities, which were previously demonstrated when the truck completed a 1,809km journey from Bangkok to Singapore on one tank of diesel. More recently, a 1.9-liter Single Cab model, loaded with a tonne of cargo, covered over 1,000 kilometers despite facing three mountain climbs, each with over 1,000 meters of elevation, all on a single tank.
In Isuzu Malaysia’s latest Dura Miles Challenge, three models were put to the test: the 1.9-liter 4×2 Auto Plus, the popular 1.9-liter 4×4 Auto Premium, and the top-tier 3.0-liter 4×4 X-Terrain. The challenge began in Phitsanulok, Thailand, about 300km north of Bangkok, and ended in Klang, Selangor.
This marked the first time the new third-generation Isuzu D-Max was tested in such a manner. The 2024 models not only sport a sleek, aerodynamic design but also come equipped with updated Euro 4 engines, delivering superior power and fuel efficiency. The entire test was supervised by a technical steward from the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), who sealed the fuel tanks and confirmed that no additional fuel was added during the journey.
As a result of this remarkable feat, the Isuzu D-Max earned a spot in the Malaysian Book of Records for the “Longest Distance Driven In A Pick-up Truck With A Single Tank of Fuel.”
At the finish line, Shunsuke Okazoe, CEO of Isuzu Malaysia, highlighted the D-Max’s advanced engineering, which makes such long-distance travel on one tank possible. “While we don’t expect every customer to drive 2,000 kilometers on a single tank, it showcases the high level of engineering behind every Isuzu vehicle,” he said.
During a ceremony in Klang, Isuzu representatives, including COO of the Light Commercial Vehicle Division Kenkichi Sogo, received a certificate from MAM and the Malaysian Book of Records. Sogo expressed that this milestone was a victory for every Isuzu D-Max owner, especially during times of rising fuel costs.
“The Isuzu D-Max isn’t just efficient—it’s versatile,” Sogo said. “Whether navigating jungle trails, transporting families, or delivering goods, the D-Max performs extraordinarily well in any condition.”
