Malaysia is set to host a round of the Autobacs SUPER GT for three consecutive years, starting with the inaugural race scheduled for June 27-28, 2025, at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. This exciting development follows a new agreement between HARO Sports & Entertainment, the rights holder and promoter of the Malaysian round, and the GT Association (GTA), the governing body of SUPER GT.
The agreement, covering the period from 2025 to 2027, was formalized in a signing ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including HARO Sports & Entertainment Managing Partner Fahrizal Hasan, GTA President and CEO Masaaki Bandoh, and Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, YB Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan. Also present were PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif and Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) Secretary-General S. N. Nanthan.
The 2025 Malaysian round will be the third stop on the SUPER GT calendar, which comprises a total of eight rounds. Seven of these will be held across various circuits in Japan, with Malaysia remaining the only overseas race. The season will kick off at the Okayama International Circuit on April 12-13, followed by Fuji Speedway on May 3-4, and then Sepang for the third round. The series will return to Japan for rounds at Fuji Speedway, Suzuka Circuit, Sportsland Sugo, Autopolis International Racing Course, and conclude at Mobility Resort Motegi in November.
SUPER GT will showcase top manufacturers and drivers from Japan, competing in both the GT500 and GT300 classes. The GT500 lineup includes prominent Japanese manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, and Nissan, while the GT300 entrants feature Subaru and Lexus.
The last time Malaysia hosted a SUPER GT round was in June 2013. The PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit first hosted the series in 2000 and 2001, when it was known as the All-Japan Grand Touring Championship. After two exhibition races, Malaysia was officially included as a championship round in 2002 and continued to host until 2013. Plans for a 2020 return were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
SUPER GT teams and drivers find the Malaysian round particularly challenging due to its extreme heat and unpredictable weather, which contrasts with the typical conditions in Japan. The combination of high temperatures, sudden downpours, and humidity tests not only the drivers but also the durability of the cars, engines, tires, and support crews.
“I am deeply honored that the GTA, the teams, and drivers have once again unanimously agreed to return to Malaysia,” said Fahrizal Hasan, Managing Partner of HARO Sports & Entertainment.
“As the only overseas round for SUPER GT, Malaysia has a unique opportunity to strengthen its position as a premier sports tourism destination, both regionally and globally. We will promote the Malaysian race extensively across Asia and beyond.”
With a strong global fan base, HARO Sports & Entertainment aims to attract at least 80,000 spectators during the two-day event. Known for its vibrant, carnival-like atmosphere, SUPER GT offers fans the chance to get close to their favorite drivers, teams, and cars. Unique attractions like the SUPER GT Race Ambassadors and the Circuit Safari, where fans can experience on-track action up close, add to the event’s appeal.
Ticket sales for the 2025 SUPER GT in Malaysia will be announced soon, promising a thrilling experience for motorsport enthusiasts.
