Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, successfully hosted Rounds 9, 10, and 11 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2024 from August 9 to 11 at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit. For the second consecutive year, the Sime Darby Racing Team competed on home soil, delivering memorable performances.

In Round 9, Mathys Jaubert of TORO Racing secured pole position, but it was the 2024 Porsche Junior, Alessandro Ghiretti, who took an early lead in the #55 Team Jebsen car. Despite dominating the race, a 10-second penalty cost Ghiretti his points, handing Jaubert his first Porsche Carrera Cup Asia victory. Marco Giltrap and Rodrigo Dias Almeida also celebrated their maiden podium finishes for Team Porsche New Zealand and R&B Racing, respectively.

Bao Jinlong continued his impressive season in the Pro-Am class, not only winning his class but also finishing fourth overall. His Phantom Global Racing teammate, Zhang Yaqi, and Z.SPEED Motorsport’s Li Xuanyu rounded out the Pro-Am podium.

The battle in the Am category saw Eric Kwong of Bergwerk Motorsport edge out Munkong Sathienthirakul of EBM by less than a second, with Henry Kwong of Triple ACE Racing finishing third.

Round 10, held under the iconic Sepang lights, showcased a stunning 29-car field. Ghiretti started on pole, but it was Dylan Pereira of Team Shanghai Yonda BWT who stunned everyone by surging from the third row to the lead in just a few corners. Jaubert followed closely, but Pereira held on to claim his first victory since the season opener.

In the Pro-Am class, a spin from Bao opened the door for Liu Kai Shun of R&B Racing, who claimed his first win of the championship. Eric Zang of TORO Racing finished second, with Yaqi close behind in third.

The Am category saw a reversal of fortunes, with Sathienthirakul besting Eric Kwong by just over half a second, while Henry Kwong secured another third-place finish.

The weekend culminated in the highly anticipated endurance race, held in wet conditions that tested the drivers’ skill and resolve. Ghiretti capitalized on an early mistake by polesitter Jaubert to take the lead. The race was punctuated by two Safety Car interventions, first due to a collision between Almeida and Giltrap, and later when Yaqi ended up in the gravel at Turn 1. Despite the disruptions, the race provided intense battles, particularly between home favorite Nazim Azman of Sime Darby Racing Team, Porsche Holding’s Martin Ragginger, and returning 2021 champion Daniel Lu Wenlong of EBM. Azman initially claimed third place, but a post-race penalty for contact with Ragginger promoted the Austrian to the podium.

In the Pro-Am class, Kai Shun secured his second win of the weekend, followed by Zang and Bao, who recovered well after a difficult qualifying session.

The Am category delivered a thrilling conclusion, with Eric Kwong overtaking Sathienthirakul on the final lap to clinch victory, completing a full set of podium finishes for Henry Kwong in third.

With five races remaining in the season, Ghiretti holds a 20-point lead over his closest challenger, Jaubert. Bao maintains a strong lead in the Pro-Am class, while a fierce four-way battle for second unfolds behind him. In the Am category, Eric Kwong leads Munkong Sathienthirakul by 21 points heading into the final two race weekends.
