Malaysia’s 67th National Day on August 31 will hold special significance this year as Proton unveils its first electric vehicle (EV), the e.MAS 7, to the public for the first time. After a media preview earlier in August, the national automaker’s inaugural EV model will take part in the National Day parade, showcasing a unique camouflage design in the colors of the Jalur Gemilang, Malaysia’s flag. The e.MAS 7 will be among a 25-car contingent that features a diverse lineup of Proton models, highlighting the brand’s journey from its inception to its future in electrification.

With a history spanning 41 years, Proton has played a pivotal role in Malaysia’s industrialization and automotive sector. The National Day parade offers an ideal platform for the company to celebrate its progress and innovation over the past four decades. The 25-car lineup will feature models ranging from the original Proton Saga to the recently launched 2025 Proton X70.

“While celebrating our past, Proton is also mindful of looking ahead to the future of the automotive industry. Hence, we decided to include the Proton e.MAS 7 in our parade lineup, even though it has not been launched yet, to allow everyone to get a closer look at the company’s first EV model,” said Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton. “As the model is not the final production vehicle, it will be displayed wearing camouflage, but in the National Day spirit, we have chosen colors that represent Malaysia’s flag.”

Following its media debut, testing and climatization activities for the Proton e.MAS 7 have ramped up. Camouflaged test vehicles have been spotted around Malaysia, undergoing rigorous durability, charging, driving, and software testing to ensure the EV meets the expectations and needs of future customers.

“The e.MAS 7 is not only Proton’s first EV but also the first Proton model developed in close collaboration with Geely. This partnership allows for shorter lead times for right-hand drive versions and greater efficiency in development costs,” added Dr. Li Chunrong. “The real measure of success for this endeavor will be how well it is received by buyers in Malaysia and export markets. To achieve that, Proton is leaving no stone unturned in its development, marketing, sales, and after-sales efforts.”
