Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, is gearing up to electrify the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit with the grand finale of the inaugural Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia 2024 on 10 August 2024. This much-anticipated event will run alongside the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2024, promising fans an exhilarating weekend of continuous racing action.
The Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia provides a unique platform for aspiring young racers, with participants as young as 10 years old competing in various categories. These include the Junior Dreamers (10 – 14 years old), Young Dreamers (15 – 17 years old), and Driven Dreamers (18 years old and above).
“Racing is ingrained in our DNA, whether it’s on the racetrack or in the digital arena. The growth of sim racing in Malaysia has created an extraordinary opportunity for young talents to display their competitive edge in the thrilling world of digital motorsport. Simulation racing is also becoming increasingly vital in shaping the future of motorsports, aiding both race preparation and the development of our racing and road vehicles,” said Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance.
The journey to the Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia 2024 finale began with two intense qualifying rounds. In the first qualifier, participants tackled the virtual Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand—competing both online and at Porsche Centre Ara Damansara—to clock the fastest lap times and secure their spots in the Top 30.
The top 30 racers from each category then advanced to the second round at Porsche Centre Ara Damansara, where they received expert coaching from a seasoned sim racing professional, fine-tuning their skills for the final showdown.
Before the official qualifiers, participants engaged in free practice sessions, culminating in the challenge at the iconic Suzuka Circuit in Japan. The top 10 racers from each category with the best lap times earned their place in the ultimate race.
The finale, held in conjunction with the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2024, will feature the Top 10 finalists from all three categories battling it out on the virtual Sepang International Circuit. The competition will kick off with a 15-minute free practice session, followed by a 15-minute qualifying session to determine grid positions for the race, where they will compete for titles in their respective categories.
Now in its 21st season, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia stands as a premier one-make sports car racing series, with all drivers competing in identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) cars, ensuring a level playing field. Representing the Sime Darby Racing Team, local talent Nazim Azman will continue his pursuit of victory in rounds 9, 10, and 11 on 10 and 11 August at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit.
