Following its public unveiling on August 15, the 2025 Proton X70 has officially launched in East Malaysia, marking a significant first for Proton as it conducts a separate launch event tailored for customers in Sabah and Sarawak. Since its initial debut on December 12, 2018, Proton’s C-segment SUV has undergone a comprehensive range of enhancements, elevating it to a leading position within its class. With refreshed exterior styling, upgraded interior features, advanced Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) safety technology, and a more efficient powertrain, the 2025 Proton X70 is set to make a strong impact among SUV enthusiasts across Malaysia.

The Proton X70 has revolutionized the premium SUV segment in Malaysia and has been a cornerstone of Proton’s success in East Malaysia, significantly contributing to the brand’s sales. Over the past five years, the SUV has become a favourite among Malaysians, with more than 100,000 units sold and seven prestigious awards to its name. Globally, its counterpart, the Geely Boyue, has also achieved remarkable success with over 1.8 million units sold in 49 countries. The 2025 Proton X70 aims to build on this legacy by delivering a compelling combination of cutting-edge features and exceptional performance, particularly for customers in East Malaysia.

“We are thrilled to introduce the 2025 Proton X70 to East Malaysia, a crucial market with significant growth opportunities. This launch is more than just about unveiling a new vehicle; it symbolizes our commitment to the region. The unique preferences of buyers here and their strong connection to the brand have always inspired us to provide the best products and services. With its updated features and refined styling, we hope the 2025 Proton X70 will help Proton lead the premium SUV market in East Malaysia,” stated Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton.

Inspired by customer feedback and a desire to infuse a distinct Malaysian identity, the 2025 Proton X70 features an updated exterior with new styling elements. The most noticeable changes include a larger front grille with elegant songket-pattern elements surrounding the Proton logo, new trapezoidal headlamps with 47 individual LEDs, a redesigned front bumper and fenders for a more muscular look, and a new hood with twin power domes hinting at its powerful performance. At the rear, a new bumper with a diffuser enhances the overall styling, while 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels complete the dynamic new look.

Under the hood, the 2025 Proton X70 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injection engine, assembled at Proton’s engine plant in Tanjong Malim. This engine delivers 177 PS of power and 255 Nm of torque and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for swift and smooth gear shifts. The drivetrain has been fine-tuned to improve fuel efficiency by 4% and reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels, ensuring a more refined driving experience.

The interior of the 2025 Proton X70 is equally impressive, featuring enhancements to boost occupant comfort and introduce new technological features. The Premium and Premium X variants come with a new stone grey interior colour scheme and a new steering wheel design. Additionally, these variants offer ambient lighting with 72 colour choices that can pulsate to the rhythm of the music playing. All variants are equipped with a new 12.3-inch floating screen, a dual quad-core processing unit, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and the popular “Hi Proton” voice command system. A remote engine start feature, accessible via the Proton Link app, allows for pre-cooling of the cabin.

The 2025 Proton X70 builds on its reputation as a pioneer in active safety systems with the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS for the Premium and Premium X variants. This system comprises 13 active safety features, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop-and-go, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Centering Control (LCC), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Traffic Sign Information (TSI), and Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC).

Complementing the ADAS package, all variants come with six SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Auto Brake Hold, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Hold Assist (HHA), and Hill Descent Control (HDC).

To celebrate the launch, Proton is offering added value worth up to RM23,500 at no extra cost for the first 3,000 customers who register their 2025 Proton X70. The new model also comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, a five-year data package with 1GB per month, and six complimentary labour services.

Addressing previous concerns about parts availability in East Malaysia, Proton has made significant investments in its parts network by opening two new Regional Parts Centres (RPC) in the region—one in Kuching, operational since February 2023, and another in Kota Kinabalu, launched just three weeks ago. These centres enhance the company’s parts management capabilities, ensuring prompt and reliable service for customers in Sabah and Sarawak.

The on-the-road prices (without insurance) for the 2025 Proton X70 variants in East Malaysia are as follows: RM100,800 for the 1.5 TGDi Standard, RM112,800 for the 1.5 TGDi Executive, RM125,800 for the 1.5 TGDi Premium, and RM128,800 for the 1.5 TGDi Premium X. Customers can choose from five exterior colours: Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Ruby Red, and Marine Blue.
