iMotorbike, Southeast Asia’s premier online platform for buying and selling pre-owned motorbikes, has released insightful user data revealing purchasing trends and consumer preferences. This data sheds light on the evolving landscape of motorbike commerce in Malaysia, offering valuable insights for enthusiasts and industry stakeholders.
Gil Carmo, CEO and Founder of iMotorbike, commented, “Since 2021, we have served thousands of customers in Malaysia, facilitating the sale and purchase of countless motorbikes. Our customers’ preferences have evolved over time, and this data provides a fascinating glimpse into the motorbike community in Malaysia. It helps us understand how to better meet our customers’ needs.”
The user trends are based on data collected from July 2021 to July 2024. The findings reveal a clear preference for certain brands and models among Malaysian motorbike riders. The Honda RS150R stands out as the most popular model, accounting for 4.8% of sales, while Yamaha is the most sought-after brand, with 32% of the market share.
The data also highlights the popularity of various types of motorbikes, with Moped, Naked, Scooter, Super Sport, and Touring being the top choices. The average age of buyers is 31.6 years, while sellers average 38.9 years, demonstrating the broad appeal of motorbikes across different age groups in Malaysia.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke notes that Malaysia has over 16,773,112 registered motorbikes, with nearly 83% of households owning one. As traffic congestion worsens and gig economy jobs increase, the number of motorbike owners in Malaysia continues to rise. According to iMotorbike’s research, the growth of the nation’s GDP is expected to further boost the motorbike market.
Sharmeen Looi, CMO and Co-Founder of iMotorbike, added, “Motorbikes have become essential for many Malaysians. The insights from our data are crucial for understanding how motorbikes are used in daily life. At iMotorbike, we are committed to staying ahead of these trends to provide our customers with the best options available.
