Maserati’s rich racing heritage is honored with the launch of two special series, the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Maserati’s triumphant return to racing in 2004 with the legendary MC12.

Inspired by the iconic MC12, which set a benchmark in GT championships, the MC20 super sports car marked a new era for Maserati in 2020 with its innovative V6 Nettuno engine. The limited edition MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, each with only 20 units available, feature unique liveries and exclusive elements that pay homage to the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone respectively.

The MC20 Icona’s livery evokes memories of the iconic 2004 MC12 Stradale, itself a tribute to the Maserati Trofeo Light and the Birdcage Type 61 from the late 1950s. This special edition boasts a Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale livery, incorporating exclusive features from the Fuoriserie personalization program. Notable details include the Maserati Fuoriserie logo in Bianco Audace near the rear wheels and the Italian flag on the door under the MC20 lettering. Chrome-plated wheels with contrasting blue Trident hubcaps, blue brake calipers, auto-dimming mirrors, and a carbon fiber engine cover further distinguish this model.

The MC20 Leggenda, with its Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte livery, reflects the colors of the award-winning MC12 GT1 from the Vitaphone Racing team, known for its record of three victories and two second-place finishes in the 24 Hours of Spa. The Leggenda features trident wheels in Nero Lucido with Nero Opaco and Digital Mint hubcaps, yellow Trident logos on the grille, doors, and C-pillar, and black brake calipers.

Both models include racing-inspired interiors with lightweight 4-way monocoque racing seats, Trident embroidery, and “Icona” or “Leggenda” inscriptions on the headrests. The powerful Nettuno engine is adorned with a badge reading “ICONA. UNA DI 20” or “LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20.” Additionally, the cars feature a sophisticated Sonus faber sound system, carbon fiber interior package, electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD), suspension lifter, blind spot and rear cross path systems, and mats in both the front and boot.

The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda celebrate Maserati’s golden era on the track, highlighted by the MC12 GT1’s impressive achievements from 2004 to 2010, including 27 FIA GT Championship victories, three 24 Hours of Spa wins, and multiple team, driver, and constructor championships.

The legacy of the MC12 Stradale, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and powered by a Ferrari-derived V12 engine, remains a cornerstone of Maserati’s racing spirit. With a top speed of 330 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, the MC12 Stradale remains Maserati’s fastest production car, with only 50 units ever made.

Today, the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda continue this storied tradition, symbolizing a passing of the baton from the legendary MC12 to a new generation of Maserati excellence.
