The Malaysia Autoshow 2024, the nation’s largest international auto event, recently showcased a record number of new electric vehicles (EVs), reflecting strong investor confidence and a highly competitive market that benefits consumers and signals a promising future for Malaysia’s mobility landscape.

Organized by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii), the Autoshow featured over 200 brands and exhibitors, with 47 vehicle launches. This influx of new models demonstrates global automotive manufacturers’ trust in Malaysia, promoting healthy competition, driving innovation, and offering consumers more choices. The event has been recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records as the largest international auto show in the country.

This year’s Autoshow saw a significant increase in xEV model displays, which accounted for 50% of the vehicles showcased. This focus on EVs underscores the strength of the local automotive sector, supported by policies like the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). The Autoshow’s alignment with these policies highlights Malaysia’s strategic direction in fostering an environment conducive to the growth and development of EVs, Next-Generation Vehicles (NxGV), and Energy-Efficient Vehicles (EEV).

Eric Chan, CARSOME Group President and Chief Operating Officer, noted that the record number of new EVs displayed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 mirrors the government’s open data, showing that EV registrations in Malaysia quadrupled in 2023 compared to 2022. “During the Autoshow, we saw very positive signs and trends that EV adoption this year will again exceed 2023 figures. This expands the commercial choice for auto consumers in Malaysia as EV brands, both existing and new entrants, will compete to provide the best offerings to customers, not only in terms of price but also the best warranty packages, service, aftersales, and ancillary benefits such as charge credits and provision of free EV chargers,” Chan said

As the official trade-in partner of the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, CARSOME demonstrated its commitment to improving customer centricity and enhancing the car ownership journey by providing onsite inspection facilities and exclusive event-only offers, including an additional RM200 cash rebate for the first 100 successful transactions.

Azrul Reza Aziz, CEO of MARii, emphasized the significance of the Autoshow in advancing the automotive sector. “This year’s Autoshow has truly highlighted the dynamic and innovative spirit of the automotive industry in Malaysia. We are delighted to have CARSOME as the official trade-in partner of the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Their involvement is crucial in enhancing the car ownership journey for consumers. We look forward to their continued support in future editions, as we collectively drive the growth of the automotive industry in Malaysia.”
