Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) finally announced the pricing for the latest Golf R, and it will be assembled here in Malaysia for the 1st time. This also marks the 1st time the Golf R is assembled outside of Europe. The Golf R will be priced at RM332,990 include of Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which supports owners with 5 years maintenance, 5 years unlimited mileage warranty, and 5 years roadside assistance.
From the exterior, the locally assembled with quite a few changes. The locally assembled Golf R will come with a new rear spoiler, a new 19-inch Estoril rims, and a titanium Akrapovič exhaust. The Akrapovič exhaust is 7 kg lighter than the regular exhaust, and it provides even better sound from the standard exhaust. 
Inside the car, the CKD Golf R comes with 2 new drive modes, Heads-Up Display (HUD), and IQ.Drive Advanced Driving Assistance System. For the 2 new drive mode, they are the “Drift” and “Special” modes. In the Drift mode, it will turn off the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and shifts the engine torque to the rear of the vehicle. And for the Special mode, it is a mode that is setup to tackle the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife, where the suspension is optimized for optimum contact point on a bumpier road. 
Additionally, the new Head-Up Display (HUD) will project information multiple information on the windscreen. The CKD Golf R will also get wireless smartphone charger and automatic high beam that was not available on the CBU Golf R. For the IQ.Drive, the Golf R will also feature a suite of driver assist which include Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist and Emergency Assist.
In terms of its powertrain, the Golf R retains the powerful 2.0TSI turbocharged engine, pushing out 320PS and 400Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission, and power is sent to all 4 wheels through the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. This allow the Golf R to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds.
