Perodua has introduced its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) prototype, the Myvi Conversion, marking a new direction in the Perodua’s journey toward electrification.
The Myvi Conversion EV prototype comprises three primary components: the power bench, the power converter, and the overall styling and design. These elements were developed and manufactured in Malaysia, with the power conversion technology being developed in collaboration with an Australian company.
“The development of the power bench was carried out by Perodua in partnership with three local universities – Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, and Universiti Putra Malaysia – to gain a deep understanding of this technology and to make it uniquely our own,” stated Perodua President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
The collaboration, which began in September 2022, involved Perodua and the universities working together to develop an EV powertrain from scratch. This joint effort aims to enhance the expertise and capabilities of all parties involved in the EV field.
“This is just the beginning for us, and we want this beginning to be as Malaysian as possible,” Dato’ Sri Zainal emphasized.
He explained the choice of the Perodua Myvi for this project, noting its popularity and significance among Malaysians. “We chose the Perodua Myvi as the model for this project because it has captured the imagination and attention of most Malaysians,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.
“The final version of Perodua’s first EV will differ from the prototype on display here, but rest assured, that day is coming,” he added.
In the meantime, Dato’ Sri Zainal encourages Malaysians to visit the Perodua booth at the Malaysia Auto Show 2024 to see the Myvi Conversion for themselves and to participate in various campaigns.
“We also welcome everyone to interact with our team to learn about our latest developments, such as the Perodua New Outlet Standards, an ongoing effort to provide our valued customers with a seamless experience at our 3S centers,” Dato’ Sri Zainal concluded.
