The Malaysia Autoshow 2024 concluded its most successful edition to date, with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) reporting RM1.4 billion in potential sales, 2,620 vehicle bookings, and 13,799 sales leads. Held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from May 21 to May 26, this year’s event featured over 200 brands and exhibitors across a sprawling 50,000 square meters, offering visitors an unparalleled automotive experience.

This year, the autoshow attracted 223,876 visitors, marking a 17% increase from the previous year and setting new records for attendance and engagement. The event featured 47 product launches, reinforcing its status as a crucial platform for reaching both Malaysian and regional consumers. Attendees were able to experience the performance and features of various auto models through interactive extended test drive routes and a challenging 4×4 offroad track, resulting in 6,263 test drives and rides.

The Malaysia Autoshow 2024 showcased a wide array of attractions, including concept vehicles, electric and efficient internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, autonomous driving demonstrations, modified cars, classic automobiles, campervans, and military vehicles. The event also facilitated the exchange and signing of 15 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and memorandums of agreement (MoAs) among industry players.

A key highlight was the display of electric vehicle (xEV) models, which made up 50% of the vehicles showcased. This focus aligns with the National Automotive Policy (NAP2020) and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP2030), both of which emphasize greener and more efficient technologies.

Several significant forums and summits were held during the event, including the 50th Commemorative Malaysia-China Automotive Summit, the 13th Asian Automotive Environmental Forum (AAEF), the MyMAP Grand Prix Award 2024, and a Business Forum and Business Matching event. These gatherings attracted international delegates from countries such as Australia, Belgium, England, Indonesia, Japan, China, and Korea, enriching the understanding of the evolving automotive landscape.

Reflecting on the success of the autoshow, Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, remarked, “The impressive turnout and engagement at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 clearly indicate the robust interest and confidence in our automotive industry. As Southeast Asia’s second-largest auto market, Malaysia has a strong foundation to propel growth in this sector, particularly in electric vehicles, thanks to our well-established electronics and electrical sector. We are committed to supporting this growth to benefit our SMEs and workers in the automotive ecosystem. MITI looks forward to an even more exciting future Autoshow that strongly profiles not just the sector’s steady progress but also our policy on promoting green mobility to help achieve the nation’s net zero target by 2050.”

MARii CEO, Azrul Reza Aziz, expressed his gratitude, stating, “It was an eventful week and a heart-warming show of support from visitors who swarmed the halls of the Malaysia Autoshow this year. I would like to express my deepest, sincerest gratitude to all sponsors, partners, exhibitors, and most importantly, our visitors for their presence at this year’s Autoshow. This support has led us to be recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records as the Largest International Autoshow.”

The Malaysia Autoshow will return in 2025, potentially with a new setting and evolved themes as Malaysia takes on the ASEAN Chairmanship.
