UMW Toyota (UMWT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), has announced the commencement of the 23rd edition of Toyota Eco Youth (TEY), a flagship national environmental education program. This initiative underscores UMWT’s steadfast dedication to fostering proactive engagement among young individuals in crafting sustainable environmental solutions.
Catering to students aged 13 to 17, this year’s program sees participation from 16 schools across the nation. The TEY 2024 launch will kick off with an intensive workshop introducing participants to Toyota’s 8 Steps Problem Solving Method (PSM), aimed at honing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Moreover, the program offers enticing cash prizes totaling up to RM80,000 to incentivize the development of innovative solutions.
Aligned with UMWT’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) ethos, the TEY Programme echoes the company’s commitment to prioritizing environmental conservation. This commitment is guided by Toyota’s environmental action plan, charting a course towards achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
Commenting on the initiative, Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, emphasized, “The Toyota Eco Youth program resonates with the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, striving for carbon neutrality and fostering a profound positive environmental impact among high school students and educators. Furthermore, we are dedicated to ensuring the sustainability of each school project even beyond the culmination of this year’s program.”
Since its inception in 2001, Toyota Eco Youth has evolved into a nationwide school environmental awareness program, leaving an indelible mark on communities by addressing pertinent environmental issues. Over 23 years, TEY has engaged over 300,000 students from 521 schools and their surrounding communities.
Datuk Ravindran K. further added, “Through the Toyota Eco Youth program, UMWT actively tackles contemporary environmental challenges while equipping youth with indispensable skills for future problem-solving. This initiative instills our ‘Move Your World’ philosophy in young minds, pushing the boundaries towards a sustainable future.”
Continuing its mission to cultivate tomorrow’s environmental leaders, Toyota Eco Youth champions innovation and practical solutions for ecological challenges. The 23rd edition of the program pledges to uphold this legacy, extending support to young innovators in their quest to forge a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.
