In a bid to bolster efforts towards a sustainable future, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) has teamed up with the Government to advocate for a multi-pathway approach to clean energy. This commitment was highlighted during a significant demonstration session showcasing hydrogen-powered mobility solutions.

Underlining the nation’s dedication to green technologies and its target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, along with Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) YB Chang Lih Kang, personally experienced the demonstration by test driving the Toyota Mirai. This collaborative endeavor underscores the significance of economic diversification and energy security in Malaysia’s energy strategy.

Speaking on behalf of UMWT at the event, Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMWT, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “As a mobility company committed to advancing sustainable transportation solutions, UMW Toyota Motor is delighted to contribute to this initiative. Our involvement reaffirms our dedication to pursuing multiple pathways towards carbon neutrality, in line with Malaysia’s ambitious goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050. Through this collaboration, we are excited to showcase the technological prowess of the Toyota Mirai. By utilizing fuel cell technology, the Mirai generates electricity by combining hydrogen with air, emitting only water.”

The Toyota Mirai, meaning ‘future’ in Japanese, serves as a testament to the potential and viability of hydrogen as a crucial component of Malaysia’s diverse and sustainable energy mix. This aligns with the objectives outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and Hydrogen Energy Transition Roadmap (HETR), demonstrating UMWT’s commitment to nurturing a competitive hydrogen ecosystem and contributing to the nation’s carbon neutrality aspirations.

This collaborative initiative marks a significant stride towards reducing carbon emissions and positions Malaysia as a frontrunner in adopting cutting-edge and eco-friendly technologies. It symbolizes a collective effort to promote the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles, which hold the promise of substantially reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector upon widespread adoption. The collaboration underscores the commitment of both public and private sectors to drive positive change and pave the way for a cleaner and greener future.
