In observance of the holy month of Ramadan, Malaysian automaker Proton recently showcased its unwavering commitment to education and community welfare through two impactful initiatives. The company’s endeavours included a significant book donation to SMK Proton City in Tanjong Malim and the allocation of a RM10,000 Zakat fund to enhance the surau facilities at the school premises.

The donation to SMK Proton City comprised a diverse array of educational materials, ranging from reference books to literary works. This initiative resonates with Proton’s overarching vision of nurturing future generations through knowledge and learning. The materials were procured through an inter-company book donation campaign, with over 500 books generously contributed by Proton staff. Through this endeavour, the company aims to inspire students to excel academically and pursue their dreams.

Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton, emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “At Proton we firmly believe in the impact of education. By providing students with access to a wide range of books, we aim to ignite their passion for learning and empower them on their educational journey towards self-discovery and fulfilling their aspirations.”

Proton’s contribution underscores the significance of corporate partnerships in advancing educational development and fostering a culture of learning within communities. Through its collaboration with SMK Proton City, the company endeavors to support educators in their mission to cultivate future generations. Zalina Ahmad, Principal of SMK Proton City, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Proton’s support, recognizing the substantial impact it will have on the school’s educational programs.

She remarked, “SMK Proton City and Proton share a close bond, with approximately 200 students hailing from families of Proton employees. Over the years, Proton, its unions, and staff have been steadfast supporters of our school. Today, we are immensely thankful for the generous donation of books, which will enrich our students’ learning experiences and contribute to their academic growth.”

In conjunction with the book donation, Proton also disbursed a RM10,000 Zakat fund to Surau SMK Proton City. This contribution will facilitate enhancement activities within the surau, including the installation of a rooftop and mosaic floor for the women’s prayer section, thereby fostering a conducive environment for prayers and activities.

Roslan Abdullah reiterated Proton’s commitment to corporate social responsibility activities and its mission to drive positive change in the communities it serves. He stated, “Proton remains dedicated to its corporate social responsibility endeavours and the pursuit of initiatives that uplift education and community welfare. Through investments in education and community welfare, we aspire to empower individuals, uplift communities, and build a brighter future for generations to come.”
