Initially, this was supposed to be a review of the Mercedes-Benz GLC. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, that vehicle became unavailable at the last minute. This prompted me to once again borrow the Mercedes-Benz C200. While this is a locally assembled version, not much has changed from the model I previously reviewed. So this time, I’ve decided to do something different. I will take you along to explore some interesting roads with this C200. If you’re still interested in the review of the C200, I will include it below:

For this road trip, I will take you through the northern part of Selangor, starting from Bandar Baru Selayang and going all the way to Sekinchan. This route will lead you through roads cutting across palm oil plantations, small villages, jungle, and padi fields. Not only does this road allow you to experience some of the untouched parts of Selangor, but it also lets you put your machine through its paces. It demonstrates that you don’t need to travel to another state to find beautiful driving roads.

Before we embark on our journey, let me introduce you to the car we’ll be driving: the Mercedes-Benz C200 sedan, now locally assembled. The car I reviewed previously was a fully imported model. Even though it’s locally assembled, the price and specifications remain unchanged. The C200 is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. This engine also features 48V mild hybrid technology, capable of producing 201 HP and 300 Nm of peak torque. Power from this engine is sent to the rear wheels, enabling acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reaching a top speed of 246 km/h. The Mercedes-Benz C200 is priced at RM 292,888.00.

For this road trip, I’ve chosen Petronas Bandar Baru Selayang as our starting point. This location has been a meetup point for car enthusiasts who want to embark on a convoy drive to Sungai Selangor dam. It’s also convenient for fueling up before the journey. As we set off, we’ll head towards the small town of Ulu Yam. At the beginning of this road, we’ll drive alongside the picturesque Ulu Yam dam. This road features numerous sharp twists and turns, so it’s advisable to drive within the speed limit. There are also uphill and downhill sections along this road, requiring drivers to be more spatially aware, as many overtakes occur here. At the end of this road, you’ll come across a small bridge in Ulu Yam town, where you’ll make a left turn into the town center.

Exiting Ulu Yam town, there’s a short, twisty road before connecting back to the coastal road linking north and south Selangor. Turning right onto this road, our destination lies to the north. Follow the road until you reach a junction on the right shortly after passing the Petron fuel station. Before that junction, you’ll see a signboard indicating the road to Fraser’s. Continue along this road until you reach a crossroad with traffic lights. Here, you’ll arrive at the sleepy little town of Kuala Kubu Baru. At the lights, turn right and follow the road until you reach the Air Selangor dam entrance. From there, continue further down, and on your left, you’ll find a junction leading to a rest area, where you can enjoy a picnic with a view of the man-made lake.

After spending enough time there, it’s time for the next phase of the journey. We’ll begin by heading back towards Kuala Kubu Baru town. From there, we’ll return to the main road, leading to a crossroad with traffic lights. Turn left and follow the road for about 17 km until you reach the Tanjong Malim toll turnoff. Take a left turn before reaching the toll and follow the direction towards Tanjong Malim town. Drive another 8 km until you spot the Petron Tanjong Malim petrol station.

Immediately after Petron Tanjong Malim, make a left turn. Initially, this road cuts through a palm oil plantation. After 4.6 km, make a left turn near SJK (T) Ladang Changkat Asa. Drive 10 km along this road until you reach a fork at the road near Masjid Al-Abidin. From here, head towards the left side as if entering a jungle road. This road passes through Kampung Gesir Tengah and continues to Kampung Keliling, ending at a T junction where you’ll turn left.

After turning left at the T junction, you’ll encounter some twisty sections of the road. This part offers an enjoyable driving experience, allowing you to explore the handling capabilities of the vehicle. However, be cautious, as there are no run-off areas on either side of the road. After passing a junction to turn left to the Felda village, you’ll encounter a few more turns before the road straightens out with minor curves. This 45 km stretch begins with a jungle segment and then transitions to a straight, flat road, ideal for driving.

As you progress along the road, the density of trees gradually decreases, replaced by palm oil trees, indicating your approach to Sekinchan. Eventually, the trees give way to paddy fields. Simply continue driving until you reach the end of the road, where it intersects with the main Kuala Selangor – Teluk Intan road. From here, you can choose to head home or visit Sekinchan. Enjoy some seafood or capture scenic photos in the paddy fields.

I conclude my drive in Sekinchan’s paddy fields. This journey covered a total of 178 km and took approximately 3 hours. With the C200, I achieved a fuel economy figure of 6.2l/100km. The size of the C200 is just right for tackling this journey, and I still felt very comfortable after the drive. The C200’s sharp steering proves its capability to handle sharp curves with precision, instilling confidence in the driver. This is a new approach I wanted to try since I’ve already reviewed the C200. If you’d like me to introduce more roads around Malaysia, please let me know.
