Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has joined hands with the Ecotourism & Conservation Society Malaysia (ECOMY) in a meaningful collaboration for the KampungKu Project, aimed at enhancing the lives of the Orang Asli community. With a total contribution of RM 10,000, the initiative focuses on installing solar lighting for 20 Orang Asli families from the Bateq tribe residing in Kampung Sungai Garam and Kampung Bencah Kelubi, Merapoh, Pahang.

Under the Mercedes-Benz Grants for Good program, employees took the lead in delivering and setting up 20 SunKing Pro Solar Lights equipped with panels. Additionally, essential items such as towels, blankets, clothes, and toys for children were generously donated by the employees, reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainability and community welfare. This initiative not only provides clean energy solutions but also fosters a sustainable future while respecting traditional ways of living.

Amanda Zhang, CEO & President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to support the Orang Asli community, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to making a positive impact. She praised the employees for their generosity and teamwork, highlighting their personal contributions that have been truly inspiring.

Andrew Sebastian, CEO & founder of ECOMY, echoed this sentiment, expressing immense gratitude for the collaborative effort. He emphasized the importance of empathy and collective action in addressing immediate needs and building a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Recognizing the challenging living conditions of the community, Mercedes-Benz employees went the extra mile by donating carefully selected food items tailored to meet specific needs. These contributions were personally delivered by the employees, who traveled in a fleet of Mercedes-Benz SUVs for three hours to reach the village in Merapoh, Pahang.

The Mercedes-Benz Grants for Good program, initiated in 2023, empowers employees to actively participate in charitable efforts. Through this innovative approach, employees nominate and vote for preferred nonprofits, ensuring a direct impact on donation selection.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s 2023 Corporate Citizenship strategy revolves around environmental sustainability, education, and community relief, aiming to create a significant and lasting impact on society. ECOMY, as a premier non-governmental organization, plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable ecotourism and conservation efforts across Malaysia. With a focus on uniting conservation, communities, and sustainable tourism, ECOMY strives to foster greater understanding and appreciation for nature and local culture.
