Proton Parts Centre Sdn Bhd (PPCSB) recently invited the media for an exclusive tour to unveil its state-of-the-art parts warehousing ecosystem and the latest advancements in its 2024 supply chain warehousing enhancement plan. Established on 19 June 1992, PPCSB plays a pivotal role in Proton’s post-sales improvement initiatives, fortifying the parts supply chain to cope with escalating market demands. Strategically located at Hicom-Glenmarie Industrial Park, it caters to a vast network of 354 Body & Paint shops, parts stockists, authorized service centers, and 26 overseas distributors.

Over the past two years, PPCSB has made significant investments, expanding its warehousing facilities by over 35% to ensure prompt market supply across all regions. The flagship facility spans an impressive 26,700 square meters, serving as the operational nerve center handling critical functions such as order processing, import-export operations, and East Malaysia transfers. To further enhance its capabilities, a new regional parts center is set to open in Sabah in the second quarter of 2024, adding more space to accommodate growing demands.

Currently processing between 2,500 to 4,500 line orders daily, PPCSB demonstrates remarkable operational efficiency. To meet the escalating parts demand, PPCSB has augmented its stock holding level by 1.5 times compared to 2022, bolstering the resilience of the supply chain with an inventory worth over RM130 million, encompassing 30,000 different parts. Moreover, stock transfers to East Malaysia have doubled in recent years, thanks to a streamlined supply chain process enabling direct deliveries from overseas vendors, significantly improving parts availability in the region.

PPCSB has also amplified its average daily delivery output capability by 35%, while a proactive approach to process enhancements has led to a substantial 63% reduction in Work-In-Progress volume, ensuring more orders are fulfilled within the committed service timeframe. The most significant operational enhancement, however, lies in the implementation of a new Warehouse Management System (WMS), slated to be operational by the end of March. Developed in collaboration with Geely and supported by Geely Logistics, this system transcends mere tool functionality, offering a comprehensive solution for cross-country knowledge sharing.

This collaborative effort underscores the paramount importance of digitalization and process optimization in contemporary supply chain management, reflecting PPCSB’s unwavering commitment to ushering in a new era of efficiency and innovation in its operations.
