FedEx Express recently achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully completing the first-ever cross-border package delivery from Malaysia to Singapore using an electric vehicle (EV). This achievement, recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records for “First Zero Emission Cross-Border Delivery,” highlights FedEx’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040.
The record-setting journey took place on February 27, 2024, covering a distance of 406 kilometers from a FedEx station in Shah Alam to a FedEx facility at Changi Airport in Singapore. Remarkably, the entire journey was completed with just one charge in Johor, showcasing the efficiency and viability of electric vehicles in logistics operations. Furthermore, it resulted in a significant reduction of approximately 100 kilograms of tailpipe CO2 emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered vans.
FedEx views this milestone not only as a feat in sustainable logistics but also as a learning opportunity to enhance future cross-border operations. Insights gained from this trial will inform strategies to improve operational effectiveness, benefiting both the environment and customer service quality.
Beyond vehicle electrification, FedEx is dedicated to efficient and responsible resource management across its air and ground operations. Embracing a sustainability strategy focused on the three R’s—Reduce, Replace, Revolutionize—the company implements initiatives such as fuel-saving measures, investments in renewable energy, and sustainable packaging solutions.
Recently, FedEx introduced FedEx® Sustainability Insights, a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting tool. This tool grants customers access to historical emissions data for their shipments within the FedEx network, empowering them to make informed decisions to minimize their environmental footprint in shipping.
