PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM) issues a crucial reminder to Audi owners regarding an ongoing airbag recall, urging immediate action to check if their vehicles are affected.

The recall encompasses 2,297 vehicles, including Audi Q5, A5 Cabriolet, and A5 Sportback models manufactured between 2009 and 2012, as well as Audi TT and R8 models produced between 2014 and 2017, equipped with Takata airbags on the driver’s side. Additionally, it involves Takata airbags on the passenger side for Audi A4, A4 Cabriolet, and A6 vehicles manufactured between 2005 and 2011. Presently, only 25% of affected vehicles, amounting to 569 out of 2,297, have been addressed.

As per information provided by Takata, the gas generator in the affected Takata front airbags may rupture upon deployment during an accident, particularly if the propellant inside has aged due to extreme ambient conditions. This rupture can propel metal pieces through the passenger compartment, posing severe injury risks to occupants.

Owners are strongly advised to promptly inspect and replace the airbags at an Audi Service Centre to maintain optimal safety standards for their vehicles. Depending on the Takata airbag fitting and car model, either a component propellant or complete drive airbag module will be replaced at no cost. As a gesture of gratitude, owners will also receive a complimentary 20-point check on their vehicles following the inspection.

To ascertain if their vehicle is affected, owners may visit the Audi website and input the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) located at the bottom left of the front windscreen. Alternatively, they can contact Audi Customer Service at 1-800-22-2834 or email info@phsautomotive.com.my, or visit their nearest Audi Centre to schedule a complimentary inspection and replacement, if required.
