UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) concluded 2023 on a high note, retaining its position as the leading non-national automaker for the third consecutive year. As January 2024 unfolded, the company continued its success by selling a total of 6,276 units, encompassing both Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

In 2023, Toyota solidified its status as the top non-national automaker, achieving record-breaking sales figures. The brand sold a total of 108,107 units (Toyota and Lexus combined), capturing an impressive 32% share of the overall non-national passenger vehicle market (Toyota only). Within the SUV segment, Toyota sold 22,533 units, securing a notable 19.6% market share among non-national brands.

Toyota’s dominance extended to the pickup segment, where it emerged as the market leader with 27,447 registered units sold in 2023, commanding a substantial 47.2% share of the non-national market. Additionally, in the panel van segment, Toyota demonstrated its supremacy by registering 3,424 units, translating to a commendable 100% market share among non-national brands.

Moreover, the month saw the culmination of the Toyota Eco Youth Programme (TEY) 2023/2024, celebrated with a ceremony at the Everly Hotel in Putrajaya. Coordinated by UMWT in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), the event highlighted the impact of environmental education on youth. Representing 15 schools nationwide, 60 students and 15 teacher advisors showcased projects addressing environmental concerns. Since its inception in 2001, TEY has engaged 506 schools, benefiting 2,690 students and leaving a lasting legacy. Notably, SMK Seri Ampang in Kedah secured the TEY Championship, earning RM30,000 for their outstanding 3R project (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

UMWT further expanded its reach with the opening of a new 3S outlet in Nibong Tebal, Penang, in February. This strategic initiative aims to enhance customer service and accessibility in the region, in line with UMWT’s commitment to providing a comprehensive network for its customers.

In conjunction with these achievements, UMWT is gearing up to unveil its latest initiative, “Beyond Zero,” in February. This event underscores Toyota’s steadfast commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. UMWT will showcase its multi-pathway mobility solutions catering to diverse needs and aligning with Malaysia’s vision for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

Throughout February, Toyota continued to facilitate access to car ownership in the auspicious Year of the Dragon through its “Flow of Fortunes” promotion. Customers were offered up to 100% loans for selected models, along with cash rebates and free accessories worth up to RM4,500 across various Toyota models. With promotional savings extending to monthly purchase instalments starting from as low as RM688 for the All-New Vios and RM658 for a brand new Yaris, the promotion aimed to make car ownership more accessible. Additionally, the Toyota Service Savers program offered convenient monthly instalments starting from as low as RM18, further enhancing customer satisfaction.
