Sime Darby Motors, Retail and Distribution Malaysia (SDM) is reinforcing its commitment to positive environmental impact through its recent ‘Seeds of Sustainability’ initiative. The company, as part of its comprehensive Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) plan, conducted a mangrove tree planting activity to promote the conservation of natural ecosystems.
Held against the scenic backdrop of Taman Rekreasi Paya Bakau Sijangkang in Klang, the initiative engaged 110 employee volunteers who planted 200 mangrove trees, contributing to the preservation of the wetland ecosystem at the park. Beyond reforestation efforts, the activity aimed to cultivate a stronger bond between the SDM team and nature, fostering a passion for preserving the environment.
This environmental initiative builds on the success of a previous ‘Seeds of Sustainability’ endeavor last October, where SDM collaborated with the non-governmental organization Ocean Hero Conservation. During this collaboration, 100 employee volunteers gathered at Sepang Gold Coast for tree planting and beach cleaning activities.
In addition to its environmental efforts, SDM continues to lead in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape. Gan emphasized, “We are steadfast in our dedication to promoting the widespread adoption of EV in Malaysia and meeting the surging demand for sustainable mobility solutions, aligning with the nation’s ambitious decarbonization goals.” SDM’s diverse product lineup, including highly-anticipated releases like the upcoming BYD SEAL and Range Rover Evoque Facelift, contributes to a cleaner and greener environment. The company is also actively pursuing strategic partnerships with established EV Charge Point Operators in Malaysia to enhance accessibility and convenience for EV users.
SDM remains committed to playing a pivotal role in promoting sustainable practices, supporting Malaysia’s transition towards a greener and more environmentally-conscious future.
