In a momentous finale, the Toyota Eco Youth Programme (TEY) 2023/2024 concluded with a closing ceremony held at the Everly Hotel in Putrajaya recently. Presented annually by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), this event serves as a testament to the profound impact of environmental education on the younger generation.
TEY stands as a platform that empowers secondary school students to actively address environmental issues through innovative initiatives. The latest edition witnessed 15 schools nationwide, comprising 60 students and 15 teacher advisors, presenting projects that targeted specific environmental concerns within their respective communities. Since its inception in 2001, TEY has reached 506 schools, benefiting 2,690 students across the nation and leaving an enduring legacy in environmental education.
At the core of TEY lies its Problem Solving Methodology (PSM), guiding students to devise creative solutions to environmental challenges. Projects ranged from local recycling issues to broader community-based problems, showcasing the students’ keen awareness of environmental issues affecting their communities.
Reflecting on the program’s impact, Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, emphasized the immeasurable influence of programs like TEY on the younger generation. He expressed pride in UMW Toyota Motor’s alignment with Toyota’s global commitment to contribute to a better environment, emphasizing the dedication to educating the younger generation through innovative methods like the Toyota 8 Steps Problem Solving Methodology.
The Closing Ceremony announced winners in various categories, with each school receiving accolades for their unique contributions. Notable awards included Best Presentation, Best Exhibition, Best Community Engagement, and Most Supportive Teacher. The event marked a fitting end to this year’s program.
Acknowledging the hard work of all students, Datuk Ravindran highlighted the program’s role in preparing future leaders, emphasizing the critical role of education in empowering youth with the knowledge, skills, and passion needed to tackle environmental challenges.
The Exhibition, held on January 22nd, featured all 15 schools showcasing their projects, providing more than 200 students around Putrajaya with the opportunity to engage with innovative solutions and deepen their understanding of environmental issues.
As TEY 2023/2024 concludes, anticipation builds for the upcoming edition launching in May 2024, reinforcing the commitment to inspire environmental stewardship among the next generation.
