A decade since its debut, the Macan is poised for a groundbreaking evolution as it ventures into its second generation, now embracing an all-electric paradigm. Serving as Porsche’s inaugural model built on the cutting-edge Premium Platform Electric (PPE), this SUV marks a revolutionary stride in automotive innovation. Meticulous testing, blending real-world scenarios with virtual simulations, has been paramount to perfect the synergy of components and systems.
Jörg Kerner, Vice President Product Line Macan, underscores the brand’s commitment to driving dynamics, precision, efficiency, and design. Balancing the iconic Macan identity with stringent aerodynamic demands posed a unique challenge. The collaboration between design and aerodynamics teams in Porsche’s advanced wind tunnel resulted in a fusion of design DNA and aerodynamic efficiency, achieved through Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) components.
Active aerodynamic elements, including an extending rear spoiler and cooling flaps, significantly contribute to the Macan’s impressive range. The electric SUV achieves a drag coefficient of 0.25, making it one of the most aerodynamic SUVs with a substantial impact on efficiency, boasting ranges exceeding 500 km across all variants according to WLTP standards.
Underpinning the Macan’s electrified prowess are electric motors powered by a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery with 800-volt architecture, facilitating high-performance fast charging. The 800-volt system enables a DC charging capacity of up to 270 kW, ensuring quick and efficient charging globally. With more than three and a half million test kilometers completed, the Macan demonstrates operational stability under various conditions.
Porsche’s dedication to driving dynamics is evident in the Macan’s development, emphasizing a familiar steering feel and a focus on endurance testing to simulate harsh operating conditions. Worldwide testing covers extreme climatic ranges, diverse surfaces, and off-road scenarios, showcasing the Macan’s adaptability in various conditions.
The all-electric Macan boasts a rear-focused all-wheel-drive system, utilizing the latest PSM motors and Porsche Traction Management for optimal torque distribution. To provide a spectrum of performance and comfort, the engineers have incorporated Porsche Active Suspension Management, air suspension, rear-axle transverse lock, and rear-axle steering with a five-degree steering angle.
